Install your app

Publish your app and install it on a subreddit.

Once you’ve uploaded your app to the Community App Directory, you can make your app available to users.

To publish your app:

  1. Navigate to the directory where your app is located.
  2. Run devvit publish.
note

Apps that use custom posts, or are NSFW must go through the review process before they can be published. Apps that use the http fetch plugin must provide terms & conditions and a privacy policy before they can be published. These links must be saved in the form on the app details page.

After you’ve published your app, here’s what happens.

Your app is live

You can now install your app to any sub you moderate. Your app is published on the Community App Directory, but it is only visible to you.

note

The devvit publish command automatically requests a review from the Developer Platform team, and any app that violates our code of conduct will be disabled by our admin team.

Make your app public

If you want your app to be publicly listed in the Community App Directory, you’ll need to submit an app review form. Once approved, your app will be publicly listed in the Community App Directory for everyone to see, and it can be installed by any mod on any subreddit.

Install your app to a subreddit

To add an app to your subreddit, find it on developers.reddit.com. Click on the app info card to get to the app details page, and click "Install".

Post

This will give you a list of subreddits that will allow you to add the app. Generally, you can only add an app to subreddits that you moderate.

Select a subreddit to install the app.

Update your subreddit app version

Currently, apps on a subreddit need to be manually updated when a new version is published.

  1. Go to your "app details" page in developers.reddit.com and locate the subreddit you want to update.
  2. If a new version of the app is available, an "Upgrade" button will be visible. Click this to update your app.
