Good and Bad

Great computer, not so great support. Love the computer. However mine developed a weird crack on the screen. It has never been dropped or mistreated in any way and the crack shows that, it is a single crack and curves around the screen. Never seen a device mistreated that cracked like this, the only thing I can think of is the slight pressure on a corner while taking my cover off, but even then I would think the crack would be more than a single curved crack. I took it to a store to see if anything can be done and while I tried to argue a defect they said there is nothing they can do, I can pay them $450 for a new screen was the only option. My advice is get the extra warranty, if the screen breaks for any reason its your problem even if it was not accidental damage, MS doesn't care, buy a new product is their belief, which is the wrong attitude to take when other manufacturer's have developed comparable products.

No LTE no sale

Well, I have been with Apple products 100% since 2007 for the entire family. iPhones - iPads and Macbook pros. Bought the new Surface Pro several weeks ago thinking it had LTE. I really love this laptop/pad. Super fast, compact and very light. Said I would never buy another Windows product, but the SP is awesome. Had to take it back since I had to hot spot it to my IPhone every time I used it in the field as it never remembered the hotspot / wifi. Will purchase when it comes out with LTE but think Microsoft blew it by not having this option when releasing it. I will say the new Microsoft 10 is pretty great also.Unfortunately Apple has not come out with anything for years and if they dont come out with something Steve Jobs like, for the 10th anniversary of the Iphone, it could be a big problem for them.

Best Windows based Laptop/Tablet on the Market

First, let me explain why I think the headline is an adequate review. This unit when plugged in or for short times is a power house with lot's of capability outfitted with the i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I am constantly impressed in how much power this unit has. Second, there are several things that make it lacking and thus the reason for 4 stars. The lack of USB C is disappointing, the need for a hub to handle additional ports is also a pain. The cooling on this computer is terrible when mounted in a vehicle. I use this in my emergency response vehicle and in Texas the computer frequently shuts off. I do like the fact it runs straight off 12Vdc. Screen brightness can be an issue in daylight conditions. Finally, quit releasing updates that cause the computer to lock up. Every Time they do a major firmware update my computer goes through weeks of lockups. Otherwise, this thing is wonderful. Strengthen the magnet on the pen, harden the keyboard, and add a built-in GPS & LTE-Advanced w/B14!

Love it!!!

I upgraded from a Surface Pro 4. While I loved the SP4, there were a few nagging issues with it (namely issues waking from Sleep & short battery life). Microsoft has fixed both of these issues on the new Surface Pro. It finally feels like the perfect combination of hardware and software, and will only get better with the fall update for Windows 10. The only thing I feel it's lacking now is a usb-c port.

Now this is something I will be recommending

As a Physician Liaison, I am tasked at keeping the Doc's tech connected to the EHR. The form, fit and capabilities were somewhat lacking in MSP3, MSP4 - now - better -much better. Forget USB-C, remember, most Hospitals don't have the infrastructure to support this technology. As for LTE, thank you M$ for not making the "laptop" cellular, If we need LTE, we have a jetpack, or a cell phone hotspot. I would rather have the space used for battery. Thank you for keeping the docking station interface. the idea of setting up "DOC Spots" through out the facility is great. A docking station, and a wired mouse and two 22'inch monitors is less expensive that setting up a bunch of workstations. slip in/out. Why four stars - "laptops" have keyboards. enough said. With any new technology, there is an adoption period/ budget cycle to consider.. So mind the Store, because OCT 1 will be coming around soon. And, the second product run will be in inventory- lessons learned.

1st Time Surface Pro-er and Glad of It

I was researching replacement tablets after a horrible Samsung experience around this time last year and finally came upon reviews of the Surface Pro 4. The favorable reviews it received won me over and rumors of the possible release dates for the next gen had me put my purchase plans on hold. I'm glad I did, this device (so far) is awesome! I had a 3rd generation iPad as well and it was a great tablet but the SP is so much more! It has a full operating system and touch screen interface that are great selling points for Design Work as I was sold at being able to work with a full Adobe Suite as well as Office and other software packages and so far (I purchased it on release date June 15, 2017) it's living up to my expectations. I would have loved to see the USB-C or Thunderbolt connectivity added to the set-up (more for being able to stretch out the lifespan of the SP than anything else) but I can live with this config. Very pleased so far, Two Thumbs Up from me!

"Uncompromising mobility" . . . So where is the LTE...?

Seems very odd to advertise something with the phrase "uncompromising mobility" when in fact failing to include LTE does exactly the opposite...it compromisies mobility. What good is a traveling/mobile computer that can't get me online, check emails, and stay connected. My patience is almost up on the "it's coming soon, later this year" claims. I simply can't understand why you would redesing and relaunch the surface and put so much money in marketing it WITHOUT LTE. It makes no sense. How hard could it have been to include this is the redesign, instead of, it's coming later this year... Looks like I'll be going for an HP or Dell product with LTE

Where is USB3.1/C

Okay so Let me start by saying this thing is beautiful. although I don't own one I do have a laptop with a 7th gen i7 16gb 256ssd and a gtx 1050 gpu. it runs smooth quiet and cool, as I'm sure the surface does. The only reason I wont be purchasing one is the lack of the USB 3.1 protocol. 3.1 is much faster than 3.0 and upgrades not only transfer rates but power as well. My phone is now USB-C and is capable of a full charge in about 1/4 the time, and might even be enough to power the Surface completely. this would allow for say 2 USB-C ports that could both not only act as data transfer but as power for the device, even a breakout like they currently have with multiple USB ports and Video, all through the USB-C. I cant help but feel Microsoft aimed for the moon and missed. All in all its a strong device and with USB 3.0 will transfer data at a decent rate (mostly with desktops/external HDD's) but I cant help but feel for the price it shoulda been a no-brainer.

Intel Core i7, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, LTE

I know that there will be an LTE version. I am waiting for the LTE version to be announced before I purchase the New Surface Pro. However, it must not come at the expense of i7. As much as I want LTE, I must have the i7 processor in my New Surface Pro. I hear rumors that only the fanless i5 and M versions will be able to fit the LTE functionality into the design. This would be no good for me. I would have to choose i7 over LTE. Please ensure that you release a version of the New Surface Pro that includes both the i7 processor and LTE. Also, the New Type Cover needs Bluetooth. Thank you.

No USB-C Still???

I've been waiting since 2015 for them to bring this product into the modern era with USB-C ports. Even after a full line update, they failed to at least accompany the 20 year old USB classic ports with a single type C. This computer is outdated right out of the gate with this antique tech. It might as well have a serial port and floppy drive. Hard pass, Microsoft. You could win over a ton of disillusioned Mac users if you just get your act together.
