It's the nicest thing I own

Beautiful laptop, great screen and performance. I use it for game development, and it has everything I could possible need. It's expensive for the hardware it contains, but the build quality and style is absolutely incredible!

The Fyre Festival of Computers

I bought this laptop despite reading multiple reviews covering its various flaws -- overheating, battery life, horrible charger design, general software issues/problems with updates -- I was optimistic and hoped that Microsoft would have worked out these issues by the time I bought it (Oct. 2017, most of the reviews were from earlier in the year/the year before.) I really loved the IDEA of this laptop, so much that I dismissed early warning signs (blue screens/freezing within the first week, sporadic unresponsiveness). Now, 9 months later, I wish I had returned it when I first noticed these issues, as every day I'm not sure if my laptop will work or freeze or shut down. And when it does work there is EXTREMELY uncomfortable it overheating of the monitor which renders useless for tablet mode and using it on your lap. Finally, the charger is very short (I can't plug it into a wall and sit at a table if the table is 2 ft from the wall) and overheats. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Simply Perfect

This is a fantastic device. Had a bit of trouble with the Surface Dock but that is a different store. The Book is sleek, fast, beautiful and powerful. From gaming to business programming this machine is exactly what was needed.

Creators Update Breaks AutoCAD 2014

I've had the surface book for a little over a year. I bought it primarily for the AutoCAD capabilities it advertised and it worked very well out in the field. Yesterday the creators update installed and it broke AutoCAD 2014 (not sure if newer versions still work, but I'm not interested in a $2,000 a year subscription when 2014 is more than adequate). Anyway Microsoft helped me roll windows back to the previous build and it works fine again. So just know if you plan on running AutoCAD 2014 (I don't know about other versions) on it you will not be able to update Windows past build 1607. Very annoying since they are constantly pushing upgrades at you. I feel I'm in for a constant battle with my Surface Book trying to push an update through and me having to keep it from happening. If the problem gets fixed I will update my review.

This is an outstanding surface laptop. It combines all the portability and usage features of the other surface devices but come with a big power and battery boost. Great computer so far!

An expensive tablet

5 stars for design. You can detach the keyboard, a big plus that apple has not dare to do, i wonder why. 3 stars--software usage, since this computer-tablet hybrid is still in pampers. Not all softwares are compatible with the surface line or at least has not modified their code to fit into the touchscreen mode. I had a quiet difficult time to read my tools tabs because they are so small, and they are on desktop mode to work with.2 star--tech support. I am going to be honest, i did not bought an insurance, since I felt pretty confident with my repair skills . Around the forth month of usage, the camera gets detached from the computer in a virtual sense. I had to reinstall the driver again every time this happened. By the way, Best Buy doesn't have tech support for this device because for low sales reasons, and literally they don't sell parts for the laptop. You have to contact Microsoft, again insurance 1st. Do your math if it's worth to buy. Microsoft, nice try but needs improvement.

Great product, bad charger

I've used multiple different surface devices for years (surface, surface 3, surface book). All have been great except for the charging cables. Expect to replace them about once a year and to be paying about $100 to do so.

Battery problems

Beautiful computer but with many keyboard battery problems. Is a very expensive computer to be spending time in solving the problems that Microsoft can not solve

Great except for 1 flaw

I have owned this device (i5/256gb/dGPU) for about 6 months now and everything is great except for 1 flaw, which is the way the screen is manufactured. I have had this device replaced twice now and all 3 devices have light bleed (the light bleed is in different areas for each device). This light bleed problem is the backlight coming through the edge of the screen in certain areas and makes your screen have a yellowish tint in those areas. If you are watching a movie with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, you will notice this; you'll notice it even more when it's on maximum brightness. This light bleed problem probably has to do with the adhesion material that is used on the screen. The technicians at the Microsoft store said that there's nothing they could do about it, and I just have to deal with it. I mean for a device this expensive, this problem should not occurred. If you are buying this device, check for this problem before you leave the store.
