Torchbox co-founders, Tom and Olly, met whilst working at OneWorld.org. Tom, a techy, and Olly, a creative, quickly realised that their shared passion, of wanting to drive positive change, warranted a go at starting a digital agency. Cue Torchbox.
By 2001, the Torchbox team had outgrown the premises of Tom's kitchen. After landing a contract with a client based in Oxford, Tom and Olly made the decision to open Torchbox's first office nearby, in the idyllic grounds of Cornbury Park.
Thanks to Tom and Olly's love of skiing, Torchbox's bi-annual company ski trips started in 2006. A much-loved calendar event, the trips provide our team with well-deserved time out.
It's hard to imagine what life without Drupal was like. Since 2007, we've used Drupal to create beautiful, yet powerful websites for some of the world's best-known organisations, including the University of Oxford, Chatham House and Greenpeace.
In 2013, we won the tender to design and build the Royal College of Art's (RCA) website. The technical requirements requested by RCA were not possible with any available open-source, content management system, so we built our own. Cue the birth of Wagtail.
In 2014, Wagtail, our open source content management system was unveiled to the world. Powered by Django, Wagtail has quickly grown to become the world's new favourite CMS, powering websites such as Global Witness, Meningitis Now and the Royal Drawing School.
2015 was the year we hit 50 full-time employees. We're extremely proud of our team of designers, developers, software engineers, project managers and digital marketers. Together, we affect positive change.
To accommodate our growing Bristol team, we recently moved into shiny, new offices in the city centre. Equipped with a creative shed, a cafe area and old school video games, it's safe to say that our Bristol team are loving their new home.
