Microsoft Dynamics 365 Roadmap

The Dynamics 365 Roadmap provides a snapshot of what we’re working on. Use this roadmap to find out what is being made generally available and what is in development. All dates and features that are in development are preliminary, are based on current expectations, and are subject to change without notice.

Investment themes

Dynamics 365 is purpose-built, productive, intelligent, and adaptable.  We characterized feature capability enhancements through investment themes that align to our solution differentiators. 

These investment themes are:

Use these themes to understand how every enhancement we make to Dynamics 365 will allow your company to:

Let’s look at each of these investment themes in more detail:

Business processes

Dynamics 365 is packaged as separate purpose-built apps.  Each of these apps is designed for a different type of line of business, so that companies are pre-equipped with features related to each of these purposes without overloading users with extraneous information that is irrelevant to their business.    

Our business process enhancements target the optimization of our business process library spread across our  purpose-built applications.  Additionaly, we are investing in providing coverage to other line of businesses and their business processes by launching new turn-key purpose-built applications to market that seamlessly integrate across Dynamics 365.  One recent example is the introduction of Dynamics 365 for Talent, Enterprise Edition.  This new app combined with LinkedIn, provides end-to-end employee engagement—from recruiting and onboarding to growth.

Productivity

To empower your employees and facilitate an increased level of productivity, Dynamics 365 and the native Office 365 integrations for collaboration and productivity ensure that your employees are working with features they are already familiar with.   

This investment theme focuses on maximizing our investments with Office 365, ease of use leveraging single sign-on, and the integration to the ever-growing extensions available through Microsoft AppSource.   We are coninuously enhancing our common navigation experience capabilities, which ensures that you don’t have to open multiple tabs or applications and can access all Dynamics 365 features and extensions from a unified and immerise interface.

Intelligence

Dynamics 365 builds its access to intelligence off Microsoft’s existing Azure platform intelligence and analytics services, which encompasses all the different ways that Microsoft has pursued general-purpose analytics and machine learning capabilities.

Dynamics 365 utilizes Microsoft Power BI, Cortana Intelligence Suite services such as Azure Machine Learning and Cognitive Services, and Azure IoT Suite to maximize usage of business intelligence investments by Microsoft.   We continue to build and enhance feature capabilities in each of the purpose-built apps that leverage these existing Microsoft services for intelligent usage and action on your data.

Application platform

Another major investment theme in Dynamics 365 is focused on enabling your organization to quickly adapt to change.  We do this by focusing our efforts to further enhance our application platform capabilities that enable configuration and customization of your business processes with ease.

You can configure business processes, build custom business logic, automate tasks, and create integrations and workflows that work in tandem with existing business software used by your company.   We are commited to invest in business continuity and continuous updates to provide robust upgrade support as new capabilities are released to market.  

Mobility

As soon as you subscribe to Dynamics 365, you have access to native first-party applications that come out-of-box for phones and tablets. These can be further configured to suit the particular needs of your business, if needed. These apps leverage out-of-the-box or previously configured business processes by line of business (LOB) owners and are automatically updated when your business processes are updated.  New solution capabilities are focused on making sure we enable users while on-the-go regardless of their line of business and operating system of choice.

Agility

Benefit from our investments in cloud research, strategic partnerships, and unique approaches to global infrastructure.  Microsoft enables you to expand into available regions as global needs of your organization experience rapid growth.   We continue to invest in Dynamics 365 region availability, localization capabilities, and regulatory compliance.

Select the Edition that best matches your business size:

• Enterprise edition— Applications for businesses with hundreds to thousands of users
• Business edition—Applications for small and medium-sized organizations with up to a few hundred users
