Bringing digital to every person. And a bag of cash to every think tank. Dream offer. Who could refuse? What better sponsor for project on "European values on data privacy"? So either Huawei * doesn't do its research * is brazen * has a stunning sense of humor Take your pick.

Thanks. I’d be a bit less generous on ourselves. But we can be grateful likes of Huckabee are not majority voices in most of our allies. Plus it’s cute to see how narrow-minded rabid nationalists lack imagination that with an open mind Germans see defeat in 1945 as liberation.

"A possible new government involving the Greens will likely look less tired and battle worn. But new coalition will have to deal with the same fault lines on key issues such as military spending, eurozone reform, migration, and the climate crisis". My take for

It's not about overinterpreting. I'm just curious whether approach of being open to anything from R2G, Ampel, Jamaica to CDU/Green will come with costs or whether voters on balance will honor that pragmatism. That would indeed turn Greens into new Volkspartei beyond left/right.

I would not be so sure. Voters seem quite open-minded these days. And a likeable FDP that puts premium on civic rights protection, smart environmental protection & technological & economic innovation can be alternative for CDU, SPD & Green party voters.

It's a big opportunity for the FDP to win a chunk of new Green party voters -- if FDP in public mind is more associated with e.g. style than Lindner. That FDP yesterday signaled backing of minority government/Jamaica negotiations is a step in that direction.

Will be interesting to watch whether they try a re-run of "Rote Socken" or Strauß' legendary red/green apocalypse warnings

Nice poetry. "Those of us who cherish the rule of law should be worried". Now to the prose: how do you stand on Chinese party state taking Michael Kovrig & Michael Spavor as hostages to put pressure on Canada?

Bremen would be first given it's with WASG not PDS. I´m not saying that´s wrong choice based on in which constellation Greens can get more of policies through. All I´m saying is that CDU/CSU will try to use this to make sure Greens can't be both bourgeois & in left wing alliance.

Ms Li, Given other European/US think tanks accept your money I had an open mind and assumed collaboration involves a financial element. Would be helpful if you published a full list of all collaborations with research institutions/think tanks and the terms/payments involved.

59% of Germans agree that "Greens stand for modern "bürgerliche" (civic) policies". A stunning 46% of CDU/CSU voters believe that. These 46% are potential Green party voters. Curious to see whether Greens can sustain this image while going for coalition with Left Party in Bremen

New poll by ZDF Politbarometer CDU/CSU at all time low of 27%, just 1% ahead of Greens. SPD at all time low of 13%, tied with AfD. Even more alarming for CDU, poll has bad news on how its leader & how CDU voters regard Greens as modern "bürgerliche" force.

With a budget of 2.2 million EURO for lobbying in Brussels & 10 accredited lobbyists one could expect a smarter and smoother operation. At least it wouldn't take a genius to design one. Here's a good piece on Huawei in Brussels by

Sponsoring & co-branding with your critics can be a good PR strategy. US tech companies do that. But if that's the case, why execute it so clumsily? Why not invest in less tone-deaf customized email? Why task a stagiaire & not senior official with making initial contact?

Ha, for that kind of operation it's a bit too public now. Eventually they may have smartened up on who they are dealing with. But that email seems to have gone to a larger number, maybe others can report on how the negotiations went. Will great to see who ends up on their paylist

For those that saw my photo of the Huawei 5G posters in the Brussels airport talking about "values," see this email from Huawei to the German think tank , which also happens to mention "values." Huawei is working hard in Europe to wins hearts/minds.
