This week I noticed that DuckDuckGo Instant Answers, as created by you, are now being incorporated in AntLang, a "programming language made for scientific computing". The project uses the DuckDuckGo API to be able to pull in data programmatically — a great way to take advantage of the Apache open source license that Instant Answers on GitHub are published under.

As you may have seen, this week we proposed a couple of prototypes for an improvement to documentation Instant Answers. Using Ruby for the test, we're trying out new formats that can show methods and classes both as individual items and also as lists. With breadcrumb links as well, this should enable developers to easily navigate through summaries and examples, with the option to click through to external documentation.

Documentation is one of the most searched resources in programming topics. With DuckDuckHack, we strive to deliver a high quality, relevant instant answer for every search. We've been working on documentation results for some months now, and we have many great results like jquery .attr

We have a lot of data that we scrape with our Fathead Instant Answers, but what we're missing are well-presented lists, and documentation is full of lists — list of methods, classes, attributes, etc. The current mechanism for serving lists is DuckDuckGo's standard tile view, as seen here for jQuery methods

We're exploring improvements to this and want to know what would be most helpful to you as a developer. How can we show lists of items as well as individual examples and descriptions in a clear, logical way?

Recently we've been making more tweaks behind the scenes to make contribution to DuckDuckHack simpler. One of these is a new consolidated list of available tasks. I'm really excited about this because it's the first time we've had a place that combines open issues from all the Instant Answer GitHub repositories. It also includes notes about task difficulty and what language skills are required. This means it's easier than ever for anyone to find a task that suits their experience and ability.

This week let's take a look at the foundation of the billions of web pages out there — HTML. As part of our Programming Mission, the HTML activity is being led by Akansh.

The coverage for HTML (number of HTML-related searches that display an Instant Answer) is already around 27%, thanks mostly to a Fathead Instant Answer (IA) that shows snippets explaining HTML elements. Even so, there's a project open for this IA to be improved further — feel free to dive in and lend a hand!
