It's my understanding that eventually we will be able to update our Android Things apps OTA from the Play Store, are there any plans to allow the developer to also be able to trigger OS updates on the already deployed devices?

Chuck Barnett: I have a feeling they'll be forced I mean automatic updates

Adam Brown: I can see where you also wouldn't want that though, if you don't want to/can't update the code to work with newer versions of the OS. Maybe it will just be a toggle, to auto update or not.

Dave Smith: No, the Play Store will not be supported on Android Things. Updates will happen through a separate developer console, which will be available in time for the next developer preview.

Developers package full OTA updates to their devices, which means OS + Apps.

Hi,
I'm running Android Things 0.4-devpreview on Raspberry Pi 3 and so far my experience with it is great.
I connected it with the officail 7" display over DSI port and power it directly over GPIO (5v and GND).
Does anyone know how can I automatically dim (lower brightness) after some time? Also, set the brightness to some number onTouch?

Android/Java code is not a problem for me, but Settings is not allowed on AOT.
I did have some system access running Raspbian previousy and I could manipulate brightness with my own logic. Any suggestions or should I file this somewhere as a feature request or a bug?

How can I obtain the network information off of the raspberry PI when I already have an app installed on the device? I know how to obtain this information when I don't have a custom package installed as you see the default Android Things screen that contains this information but when you do have an APK installed it is auto launched on boot.

Ivan Yudhi: It was in such huge demand and instantly sold out everywhere. There's an option to sign up for notification when it's available again. I'm hoping to get one as well.

ty harness: The voice hat kit is nice (and I hope it does become readily available) but it's not essential you can just use a separate mic and speaker. There's some adafruit item numbers here:

How does a things app communicate with backend servers using retrofit and http methods ? another sdk ? another protocol ? mqtt ?

Dave Smith: All of the above. Android Things (just like Android) is not opinionated about the transport protocols you use in your app.

Paul Gureghian: i havent seen any tutorials which shows code on sending sensor data to the backend . the only input code ive seen is to write to the logcat.

I am having a devil of a time trying to figure out the wifi on rpi to adb connection. i have the lan connection process understood. when i boot the board does it have to see the wifi interface on the splash screen ? or just connect via lan and then connect to the wifi service ?
