John Wagner is a national political reporter covering the White House.
He previously covered the 2016 presidential election, focusing on the Democratic campaigns of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley.
John earlier chronicled Maryland government for more than a decade, a stretch that included O’Malley’s eight years as governor and part of the tenure of his Republican predecessor, Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.
John also covered the Maryland gubernatorial races of 2006, 2010 and 2014 -- the latter of which brought the return to Annapolis of a Republican chief executive, Larry Hogan.
John has also covered prominent issues in Maryland including the legalization of same-sex marriage, the repeal of the death penalty and the expansion of state-sanctioned gambling.
He came to The Post from The (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer, where he served as the paper’s Washington correspondent, covering the 2004 presidential bid of then-Sen. John Edwards and the final years in office of former Sen. Jesse Helms.
