Availability and Security
- GitLab.com is monitored 24/7. For updates follow @gitlabstatus or see our status page.
- Our servers are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Ocean, and Azure, we use configuration management, and we patch our servers at least once a week. Our runbooks are public as is our operational issue tracker .
- GitLab offers Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) via a mobile application or a U2F device, rate limiting, audit logs, and passwords are one-way encrypted.
- GitLab.com cannot be integrated with your LDAP server, if you need this please host GitLab yourself. or use our GitHost.io service.

Our strategy is to make GitLab.com the most popular SaaS solution for private and public repositories. To achieve this goal you get unlimited public and private projects, and there is no limit to the number of collaborators on a project. And we plan to keep unlimited repositories and collaborators free forever. To sustain this there are paid accounts and features. Below the types of accounts and the planned paid features are detailed.
There are three types of accounts on GitLab.com:
- Free: unlimited repositories, unlimited collaborators, 2000 build minutes (will enforce Q1 of 2017), all EE starter features
- Bronze: email support, unlimited build minutes, the same features as the free plan
- Silver: (second half of 2017) all EE premium features
In the future we might also charge for the following things:
- Build artifact storage above a certain size (currently unlimited even with a free account)
- Container images storage above a certain size (currently unlimited even with a free account)
- GitLab Pages with very high traffic (currently unlimited even with a free acount)
- Restrict the build minutes in the bronze plan (move unlimited minutes to the silver account)
- Windows & MacOS Runners for GitLab CI (not available now but you can always bring your own Runner)
