Four suspects facing hate crime charges made their first appearance in a Chicago court this afternoon after they allegedly kidnapped and tortured a man, whom a police official characterized as having “mental health challenges,” while streaming it live on Facebook. The Illinois suspects - identified by prosecutors as Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago - were arrested and charged with hate crime, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Retail giants Sears and Macy’s announced sweeping plans this week to close more than 200 stores nationwide following disappointing holiday sales results. Sears Holdings will shutter 108 Kmart stores and 42 Sears locations over the next few months. Sears shut down 78 stores last year and more than 200 in 2015.
