EU tables Atlantic sea bass fishing ban

The European Commission wants to impose a total commercial fishing ban on Atlantic sea bass over fears that stocks will collapse. Current catch limits hover around 570 tonnes per year. The move to reduce the quota to zero follows reports by fisheries scientists, who warn numbers have dropped below safe biological limits. EU ministers will meet in December to approve or reject the fishing ban.
