Shipping CSS Grid Layout in major browsers

For those who have been waiting for this feature, we have a very good news. You can start using CSS Grid Layout in Chrome 57, Safari 10.1, Firefox 52 and Opera 44, so make sure to download the latest browser and test the feature.

The implementation of the CSS Grid Layout in Blink and WebKit was a project that started in 2013 thanks to Bloomberg's sponsorship commitment and to Igalian engineers who have led the implementation of the specification along these years. Thanks to this work, the browsers that use these engines now have Grid Layout support, like Chrome, Safari and Opera among others.

We are excited to know that many web developers and designers are now able to deliver rich and responsive contents across the web thanks to the new feature. And we hope to continue implementing cool and challenging features in the future.

Meet Igalia at the Open Networking Summit 2017

We are excited to announce that Igalia will be attending the Open Networking Summit in Santa Clara, CA from April 3-6, 2017!

The Open Networking Summit is a major venue for sharing knowledge about open source networking technologies. Igalia plays an active role in this area with a networking team specialized in using the Snabb networking toolkit.

Snabb is an open-source toolkit implemented with LuaJIT for building network functions that run on commodity hardware. Our team uses its unique background in compilers to specialize network functions with JIT-compilation to achieve high performance.

Igalia at the MPLS + SDN + NFV World Congress (Paris, March 21st to 24th, 2017)

We are excited to announce that we are at the 19th MPLS + SDN + NFV World Congress which is taking place this week in Paris. The event is a gathering of major service providers and enterprises from the networking industry and will reflect the biggest major trend in the networking industry: how to evolve from management to orchestration.

Andy Wingo will be present at the congress representing Igalia. He will also deliver a talk on Wednesday at 18:10 and introduce a lightweight 4-over-6 implementation developed with Snabb, an open source software toolkit ideal for networking technologies.

We are at the Embedded World Conference Europe!

The Embedded World Conference is where the world's embedded community comes together. The theme of the 2017 conference is "Securely Connecting the Embedded World."

Meet Igalia at the Mobile World Congress 2017

We are excited to announce that Igalia will be in Barcelona this week to attend the Mobile World Congress 2017, the largest gathering for the mobile industry in the world.

Igalia will be present at the Spanish Pavilion to showcase our latest work in client-side technologies (browsers, multimedia, graphics and compilers). Please, pass by our stand (Spanish Pavilion, booth 7) to check out the demos!

Apart from the showcase, there will also be presentations where we will share the details of our latest implemenations in WebRTC and Snabb.

Igalia at the Embedded Linux Conference (Feb 21-23, 2017, Portland, US)

We are excited to sponsor the 12th Embedded Linux Conference (ELC), which is during Feb 21st-23rd in Portland this year. ELC is the premier vendor-neutral technical conference for companies and developers using Linux in embedded products.

Mesa 17.0 released with Intel OpenGL 4.5 conformance

The release of Mesa 17.0 yesterday marked a very important milestone: the fully open source graphics platform for Intel integrated processors was released, for the first time, with industry certification of conformance with the latest versions of standard 3D graphics APIs.

The Khronos Group, an industry consortium that defines and promotes open standards for cross-platform technology, has granted the latest generations of Intel® Core™ processors with recognition of their conformance to the OpenGL 4.5, OpenGL ES 3.2 and Vulkan 1.0 standards.

Igalia has contributed several features and bugfixes that helped achieve this important milestone. During the last several months, we have been working hard on improving the Intel driver to enable 64-bit floating point support. We developed OpenGL extensions such as ARB_gpu_shader_fp64 and ARB_vertex_attrib_64bit, which were a major contributor to increasing the supported OpenGL version. This work that has also benefited the Vulkan driver. Earlier on, we developed ARB_internalformat_query2 and ARB_shader_storage_buffer_object, which were also required by different core versions of OpenGL.

Igalia also worked side-by-side with Intel engineers on bugfixes across different parts of the stack, improving the quality and maturity of the driver in order to get it to the level of quality required by the Khronos conformance certification process. As members of the Khronos Group, we also had the opportunity to contribute tests and bugfixes to the conformance suite itself. We believe that the ability to work vertically with different industry actors was key for the success of this certification process, and it gives us a unique position in the industry.

We are honored by the opportunity to work with great industry partners such as Intel, and also very proud of our contributions to the open source Linux graphics stack.

Meet Igalia at BlinkOn7 (Jan 31, Feb 1)

Igalia will be in Sunnyvale at Google’s Tech Corners Campus to attend BlinkOn7 on January 31 and February 1, 2017. BlinkOn is a low-key conference for Blink contributors held in an unconference format.

José Dapena, Antonio Gomes and Daniel Ehrenberg from Igalia will attend the event. So if you are also attending, make sure to meet them! We would love to discuss our current work as well as future development in Blink and in Chromium.
