Uganda

Acts of intimidation and violence against journalists are an almost daily occurrence in Uganda. Under Yoweri Museveni, who has been president since 1986, many journalists have been suspended, stripped of their equipment or badly beaten by ruling party members or security agents. This has especially been the case in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections. Media outlets that cover the opposition candidate’s campaign are threatened with closure.
