    A PROJECT OF THE JEWISH EDUCATION CENTER OF CLEVELAND MISSION

    The Hagigat Ivri, a festival of Hebrew, will raise the profile of Hebrew language and culture by producing local celebration events and activities that celebrate the language and its culture. Through comprehensive programming, the Hagigat Ivrit aims to strengthen the importance of Hebrew for enthusiasts of all backgrounds and levels of familiarity with the language.

    ABOUT
    The Hagigat Ivri is the first annual festival in Cleveland celebrating the Hebrew Language. The festival, which will take place in the Cleveland area from February 4-15, 2016 and will present a variety of artistic and academic events and workshops that will engage a wide range of audiences in the beauty of the language and culture of Hebrew. The Hagigah Ivrit is sponsored by The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland, Cleveland Federation, and @AKIVA, and many of the events will be hosted by local organizations.

    GOALS
    * Expand and deepen the use of the Hebrew language in everyday life
    * Promote Hebrew language and culture among diverse audiences in the Cleveland area
    * Build a connection between the Hebrew language and the arts
    * Strengthen the ties between the Cleveland Jewish community and communities in Israel
    * Promote the Hebrew language as something fun to be celebrated
    * Draw on the importance of the Hebrew language to strengthen Jewish identity

A Community Model for Supporting “Beyond the Classroom Experiences” by Judith Schiller, Director of the Retreat Institute of the JECC

Through our involvement with Shinui: The Network for Innovation in Part-Time Jewish Education, we have seen first-hand the benefits of sharing an effective model with colleagues. In this spirit, we are compelled to share the model of the Retreat Institute (RI), a program of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JECC) that receives generous support from the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. The RI supports congregations, schools, and other Jewish organizations plan and implement “beyond the classroom” experiences – uniquely impactful opportunities for deeper learning, community building, and for fostering a love of Judaism.
