The HSI Board and staff knew that if this happened, the residents there would struggle to find safe, decent housing so they worked with the Board of The Mt. Kemble Home and decided that the best outcome would be for HSI to take over The Mount Kemble Home.
Read The Story
The Mt. Kemble Home in Morristown was founded in 1883 to provide affordable housing for elderly single women of very limited means, and has been placed on both national and state historic registers, in part due to its unique, purpose-built social mission. Unfortunately in 2013, due to mounting financial pressures and other organizational challenges, it faced the prospect of closure. The HSI Board and staff knew that if this happened, the residents there would struggle to find safe, decent housing so they worked with the Board of The Mt. Kemble Home and decided that the best outcome would be for HSI to take over The Mount Kemble Home. Shortly thereafter, The Mt. Kemble Home moved under the HSI umbrella, where they have incorporated the The Home as one of their signature programs providing shelter, housing, and supportive services to low income people. Recently, they've started an extensive, multi-phased renovation that will allow The Home to support an even larger group of individuals in need.
