Beginning life as an irreverent animated series mostly geared towards kids, Adventure Time has won over people of all age groups with its mix of absurd humor and heartfelt moments. Over time, the series has dealt with a number of mature themes and teased out a dense mythology for the land known as Ooo. Peppered throughout the many adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog have been deep dives into the tragic past of the planet they inhabit and the origin of many of its key players.

Over the course of hundreds of episodes, miniseries, and comics, we’ve had the curtain pulled back on a number of characters and events that ...

Click to continue reading 13 Things We Need To See Happen Before Adventure Time Ends

Comic book heroes have proven themselves big business – both on screen and off, just as conventions that cater to hobbyists of all calibers continue to grow and establish themselves in different locations all around the world.

While collectors have what is arguably the largest selection of figurines and assorted memorabilia to choose from to date, some collectibles have gone beyond the sort that can simply be stored on a shelf or in a display case. As we’ve seen over the years, the sky is often the limit. Just last summer, for example, there was a series of custom made Marvel motorbikes, the likes of which had to be won to own.

The charge was led by Marvel Studios when it laid the seeds for a bigger universe by having Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark share a scene with William Hurt’s General Ross during The Incredible Hulk. Beyond a tease by Nick Fury in Iron Man, this was a seminal – and often forgotten moment – in the modern history of growing cinematic landscapes.

Since then, other properties and studios have gotten into the act, including Warner Bros’ DC Extended Universe and most notably of late, Star Wars. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, a brain trust of story editors were created to plot a new, cohesive story line for the entire galaxy of stories. They simplified their canon by resetting all story elements from the Expanded Universe, outside of the theatrical films and The Clone ...

Click to continue reading Star Wars Story Group ‘Very Committed’ To Shared Continuity

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hasn’t even been playing in U.S. theaters for a week at the time of writing this, yet fans of all things based in a galaxy far, far away have wasted no time documenting the film’s many Easter Eggs and nods to other Star Wars movies, novels and TV shows alike.
Near the end of 1999, a new manga series created by Masashi Kishimoto named Naruto debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in Japan. It followed a young ninja, Naruto, who lived in a fantasy world out of Japanese mythology. In the first issue, we discover that Naruto has a demon trapped inside his body. On the day of his birth, a colossal nine-tailed fox attacked his village, and the only way to stop the fox was to seal it within a baby. Twelve years later, Naruto has become a ninja, and must defeat the enemies who want to steal the demon fox within him… while also resisting the temptation to use the fox’s power for his own ends.

Naruto would go on to explode in popularity, becoming a sales juggernaut around the world. ...

Click to continue reading 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Naruto

In recent years, Hollywood sexism has shot to the forefront of industry conversation. In 2015, Passengers star Jennifer Lawrence penned an evocative essay on equal pay for Lenny Letter, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s weekly feminist newsletter. After 2014’s Sony Pictures hack, she’d learned that she’d earned less money than her American Hustle co-stars, despite having an equally prominent role in the 2013 film.

Lawrence’s words helped spark a burgeoning discussion around sexism in show biz. Since then, stars including Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, and Mila Kunis have all spoken out about their experiences, broadening the issue to include tabloid scrutiny and matters of representation, too.

Christopher Nolan has made a name for himself as a director of big budget blockbusters with equal parts visual splendor and emotional heft, but while he is best known for his sci-fi movies (Inception and Interstellar) and the acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy, his next film is considerably more grounded in reality. A dramatization of the evacuation of Allied soldiers from Dunkirk during World War II, Dunkirk is a war drama which aims to put the audience in the middle of one of the most legendary war stories of the 20th century.

Nolan’s signature attention to detail and desire for realism is on display in the recently released trailer, with much of the film shot with IMAX cameras in the actual locations in which the real-life battle took place. ...

Click to continue reading The Real History Behind Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk

The pilot for Riverdale screened at Comic-Con International in San Diego this summer, but the series was scheduled to debut at the midseason point, with the premiere set for the end of January. As such, The CW has only recently begun its big push for teasing the series premiere of Riverdale, with the first promo arriving ...

Click to continue reading Riverdale Extended Trailer: Nothing Is As It Seems in Archie’s Hometown

In November of 1990, a little movie called Home Alone premiered, broke box office records, and made a star out of its nine year-old lead, Macaulay Culkin. Written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus, it boasted an impressive cast, featuring veteran actors like Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, Catherine O’Hara, John Heard, and John Candy.

Home Alone told the story of Kevin McCallister, a little boy who gets accidentally left behind when the rest of his family heads to Paris for the Christmas holidays. While his family realizes he’s missing en route and his mother tries to get back home to him, Kevin faces off against bandits who are determined to rob his house.
The Dragon Ball franchise is all about who has the most power. Usually Goku and Vegeta are the ones in the running for that honor, but there’s more to power than just new forms or who has trained the most. At the end of the day, it comes down to whose attacks are the best. And in that regard, it’s a lot harder to pinpoint who is the best, because certain characters you might never suspect actually possess some of the best moves we’ve seen.

For a topic like this, we’ve got to sift through the hundreds of moves fighters have used and narrow it down to the best of the best.
Neither of 2016’s major video game movie adaptations (Warcraft and the newly-released Assassin’s Creed) brought the genre the critical acclaim that fans have long hoped for – but there’s always the future. One such upcoming video game-based film that has people intrigued is Tomb Raider, the reboot of the globe-trotting archeological adventure series on the big screen. Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) is taking over the role of ancient artifact-hunter Lara Croft from her fellow Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie (who played the character in a pair of movies during the 2000s) for a film that is described as something of an origin story for Miss Croft.

The release of Wonder Woman is still half a year away, but it’s fair to say that there’s a lot of anticipation building for the long-awaited solo movie of the Amazonian Goddess. Starring Gal Gadot in the titular role, DC and Warner Bros. will be hoping for more critical success for Wonder Woman than was received for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad.

Star Wars likes to deliver the goods come Christmas. The Force Awakens dispensed with the traditional May time release date and instead arrive in theaters in time for the holidays last year, and this year, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been gifted to us all. Next year, Star Wars Episode VIII will arrive, too. Not only are there the films, but the range of holiday-themed Star Wars gifts seems never ending, too, from tree ornaments to festive Stormtrooper sweaters, there really is a holiday gift out there for anyone….provided they’re a Star Wars fan, that is.

To celebrate the season of festive joy, How it Should Have Ended has released a video of one of the best-loved Star Wars characters, Chewbacca, singing “Silent Night”. Okay, so it’s the Wookiee version, so the lyrics might not be entirely recognizable, but the tune is all ...

Click to continue reading Chewbacca Performs the Wookiee Version of ‘Silent Night’

As 2016 winds down to a close, moviegoers are looking ahead to what 2017 in film has in store. There is no shortage of anticipated projects coming through the pipeline, and viewers won’t have to wait long into the new year for some of those to reach theaters. The LEGO Batman Movie, a spinoff of 2014’s The LEGO Movie, opens in February around the same time its predecessor did. The film centers around Will Arnett’s hilarious version of the Caped Crusader, telling a story about how the Dark Knight must put aside his loner tendencies and work with other heroes to save Gotham City.

Warner Bros. has done a great deal of marketing for LEGO Batman already, unveiling numerous trailers and posters showcasing the wide cast of characters and irreverent sense of humor that’s become synonymous with the LEGO brand.
Earlier this year, 20th Century Fox began its official marketing campaign for Logan by releasing a series of mysterious, yet intriguing (and, in that case, black and white) photos online through Twitter, teasing elements from the Wolverine/X-Men film and culminating with the movie’s trailer debut. The strategy worked by most accounts, so it only makes sense that Fox is now repeating it for another one of the studio’s franchise tentpoles slated to arrive in 2017 – namely, Alien: Covenant, the Ridley Scott-directed project that serves as both a sequel to the filmmaker’s Prometheus and more of a straight-forward prequel to Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic Alien than Prometheus was.

Star Wars is known for many things, but there are certain aspects of the saga that have become synonymous with the property, such as lightsabers, holograms, and stormtroopers, among many other things. Stormtroopers are the elite (yes, elite) fighting force of the Galactic Empire, and they have done their fair share of killing — even if those kills rarely have anything to do with the Rebel Alliance or any characters we actually care about.

Everyone who has seen at least one Star Wars movie (unless they’ve only seen the the prequel trilogy) knows who the stormtroopers are and what they look like. They aren’t clones, and they wear all-white armor with a ...

Click to continue reading Star Wars: 15 Things You Never Knew About Stormtroopers

Warning: SPOILERS for The Walking Dead ahead

–

The Walking Dead commenced its winter break earlier this month and the show’s seventh season certainly seems to have divided fans so far. Whilst the season opener – “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” – attracted record viewing figures, it also received plenty of criticism for its brutality and the ratings quickly began to fall as some viewers struggled to connect with the multitude of new characters and communities being introduced.

The show’s mid-season finale – “Hearts Still Beating” – returned the focus largely to the central group of characters ...

Click to continue reading The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale Post-Credits Scene Released
