CMP Update - Slim Pickin'

LIMITED INVENTORY AT CMP STORES
(March 2013):

RIFLES: The CMP currently has over 12,000 unfilled orders for rifles, ammo and other items. We also still have thousands of M1 Garands. These rifles all require inspection and repair and grading before being put up for sale. At times the customer demand exceeds the amount that our staff can make ready for sale. This is the case now with the field and service grade M1 Garand rifles. As the CMP armory produces the rifles, they are all being used to fill existing mail orders, some from as far back as the beginning of January. Until we catch up on mail orders, there will not be any field or service grade rifles in the stores at Anniston or Camp Perry. For now, we only have the M1 Service Grade Special ($950), M1 CMP Special ($995), M1C, M1D, M1NM, and Kimber model .82 (.22LR) in stock at both stores. We expect this to continue until late June.

AMMO: The CMP does not have any caliber .223, .22LR, or .30 carbine ammo for sale at either store. We are sold out and expect to receive shipments of these calibers in 3-6 months. We continue to accept orders for these calibers and will fill those orders when we receive the replenishment shipments from the manufacturers. We do have caliber .30-06 ammo at both stores, but a 10 can purchase limit per year per customer applies. We also still have the Atomic caliber .308, but expect to run out in the next 60 days.

CMP Update - IH Garands

AGUILA .22LR AMMO. As is the case with many other sellers of .22LR ammo, the CMP has been sold out. We had posted information that we were expecting a resupply in April or May. The distributor has just informed us that the manufacturer "maybe" will deliver 200-300 cases by the end of May, but the remainder of our order will not be delivered until "maybe" October. Many of our customers have already ordered from us and we will fill the orders as the ammo arrives, oldest order to newest order. Thank you for your understanding of what is currently happening to the ammo market in the US.

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER M1 GARANDS. In 2012 we announced that we expected to begin accepting orders early in 2013. Because of the volume of rifle orders for all options, we will not have the IHC rifles ready for several more months. All of our armorers are now working to inspect and grade the other manufacturers for which we already have received several thousand orders. Thank you for your patience.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY SERVICE GRADE SPECIAL, RM1SASSP SOLD OUT. We have posted this item as "sold out and not accepting orders" on the CMP web page. We do still have inventory of this item but feel we have enough orders already received and in the pipeline to us to completely sell out the remaining quantity. We request that customers who have submitted an order for this item to not contact us to see if they "made the cut". We expect to fill all orders, but will contact the customer if we cannot. CMP Update - Ammo Rationing

Aguila .22LR Ammunition.  The CMP is sold out of caliber .22 rimfire ammunition. The manufacturer, Aguila, has advised that the earliest we can expect resupply is late April, 2013, at slightly higher pricing. We are still accepting orders and will fill those orders as soon as we have received new inventory. At the rate that orders are being received for this backordered ammunition, the entire resupply quantity may be sold before it is even received. Lake City Carbine Ammo. The caliber .30 Lake City Carbine ammo that we offered for sale beginning 2 Jan, 2013 will be sold out by 8 Feb, 2013.  We still have over 1,000 orders for this ammo  that have not yet shipped, but will be filled over the next few weeks.  Aguila .30 carbine ammo (CMP Item 438A) is still available for purchase.

Purchase Limit on HXP .30-06 ammunition. As a result of the purchasing frenzy of the HXP .30-06 ammunition, effective immediately CMP is imposing a 10 can per year per customer limit for CMP Item number 4C3006X000-200 and 4C3006X000-200P (200 loose rounds in .30 cal can). The several thousand orders already received either through estore, mail, phone, fax, etc. will be honored. We regret having to ration this ammunition, but are doing so to ensure that future new rifle purchasers over the next 1-2 years have access to some of this ammunition.

CMP Update - New Yorkers Pay Attention!

As a result of the NY SAFE Act of 2013, effective immediately, all NY customers purchasing any CMP rifles, to include the M1 Garand, to be delivered in NY must have the rifle shipped to a NY licensed FFL dealer in NY for compliance with SAFE Act requirements. Copy of dealer's license and shipping information must be provided with rifle orders. Ammunition orders may still be shipped directly to the customer for the remainder of 2013.

NY customers who have already mailed their rifle orders to CMP should provide [email protected] with dealer information or order cancellation instructions. Information can also be faxed to 256-835-3527 or mailed to CMP Customer Service, (Attn: NY Order), 1401 Commerce Blvd., Anniston, AL 36207.

Order and email backlog. CMP has received buckets of orders in the past month and many email inquiries. It will take several weeks for us to catch up on inputting orders and responding to emails. We thank you for your patience.

CMP Oklahoma Games. The CMP Games - Oklahoma, sponsored by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, will be held at the Oklahoma City Gun Club 3-7 April. The CMP Games - Oklahoma will feature clinics, SAFS/M16 match, EIC Rifle Match, GSMM Four Gun Aggregate, Vintage Sniper Match, CMP As-Issued 1911 Pistol Match, Military & Police Service Pistol Match, EIC Pistol match, and several other events! CMP Junior Rifle Camps.  Each summer the Civilian Marksmanship Program sponsors a popular series of Junior Air Rifle Camps and Clinics to teach intermediate and advanced rifle marksmanship skills to junior shooters and their adult leaders. All camps are one week long, three-position air rifle camps, with the exception of the Outreach Clinics and the Advanced Standing Camp. CMP Scholarships.  The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) offers $1000 one-year scholarships assistance to encourage and reward outstanding and deserving high school seniors on the basis of merit to selected high school seniors who are currently enrolled in a team or club that is participating in rifle or pistol marksmanship competitions.   The CMP seeks applications from high school seniors who are currently compete in marksmanship competitions.  For more information, please visit http://www.thecmp.org/Competitions/Scholarships.htm.  Deadline to apply is 5 March 2013.

CMP SAFETY.  Target shooting established its record as one of the safest of all sports because everyone in it must learn and follow basic safety rules. There are several thousand junior shooting clubs, JROTC unit rifle teams, 4-H Shooting Sports clubs, Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews, youth camps and junior shooting organizations that practice and compete in position air rifle shooting and other air rifle activities. These programs have more than 100,000 participants in the United States. These youth marksmanship activities have compiled an outstanding safety record where gun-related accidents are extremely rare. Rifle marksmanship activities are indeed among the safest of all youth sports. The Board of Directors and the CMP staff take this opportunity to thank all our customers and competitors for their support in 2012 and wish everyone a very prosperous year in 2013.

Order and email backlog. Although the staff worked many long hours and processed and shipped a record number of orders in the days and weeks before Christmas, there were still hundreds of orders that were not processed. The AR was in the trunk?

Reporting on the CT tragedy was spotty at best, and one of the things that changed was the presence of a Bushmaster .223 at the scene vs found in the trunk of the car.

 This video seems to show it being checked out in the trunk.

40% of Gun Sales...

... are done without a background check. That's the number being floated by NPR and other unbiased news sources.

My question is, what is the source of this number? Is it 40% of all gun sales, or the ones at gun shows? I've heard it both ways.

Seeing as private sales are, well, private,  I find that number to be suspect at best, complete horseshit at worst.

Connecticut Gun Laws

It didn't take them long. Last Friday, on the way home from work, NPR had EJ Dionne calling for gun control. He must carry his blood-dancing shoes with him at all times, to be able to start the Casualty Can-Can on such short notice.

So, lacking any new ideas in gun control circles, we can count on them to trot out the same old crap. With that in mind, let's look at Connecticut's gun control laws, courtesy of those paragons of freedom, the Brady Bunch (no link for them, fuck 'em).

- It scores 58 0ut of 100 points Only New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California scored higher
- It requires background checks on long guns at gun shows
- It requires a state permit to purchase handguns
- It requires trigger locks be sold with all guns.
- It bans "assault weapons" with 2 or more "assault features"*

All this, and he-who-shall-not-be-named still managed to bring the crazy.

We definitely need to have a conversation, but not about gun control.
