In the Name of Humanity We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America

In the face of the dizzying pace of the fascist pronouncements and acts of the Trump/Pence regime, people all over – in likely and unlikely places – are looking for answers, looking for ways to resist, especially in ways which are part of strengthening and growing a larger community of defiance.   One key way to do this is for millions to take up and spread the slogan: “No! In the Name of Humanity—We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America!” This slogan stretches its arms wide to the people of the world, correctly captures the stakes for the future in all its dimensions, and puts before people clearly what must be fiercely opposed.

Download the NO! poster and other materials at refusefascism.org.  Pull your friends together. Discuss the two essential points on refusefascism.org —  this is fascism and must be defeated, and there are millions who can be potentially mobilized to do that.  Talk about the slogan In the Name of Humanity We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America, and make plans to spread it everywhere. Take it out in the midst of all the other ways you are resisting.  Organize outings to get the poster up in store windows up and down the streets of your community and on your local college campus.  Take posters with this slogan to the next demonstration.  Wear stickers with this slogan everywhere you go — to the gym, to the movies, to the opera (people have done it and gotten a really positive response).  Be sure to have a stack in your pocket to give to all who are interested.  (And get a donation!)   You will come up with many other creative ideas to have a powerful impact.

Fascism on the March…

What Is Fascism?

Fascism on the March, Sharpening Crisis, and the Urgency to Act

by Sunsara Taylor

On January 27, Donald Trump issued a vicious ban on immigrants from seven majority Muslim countries and a ban on all refugees. With the stroke of a pen, the lives of thousands were destroyed and shockwaves of terror and fear were sent into entire countries and communities. By that evening, thousands amassed at airports in protest—chanting, forming emergency legal clinics, blocking traffic and completely upending business as usual. These protests have continued in different forms for days, clogging major cities and towns all across the country and in other parts of the world.

Yet, the Trump-Pence regime barreled ahead. (more…)

Eight Year Old Nawar al-Awlaki, Nine Others, Killed by U.S. Forces in Yemen

February 1, 2017 – Today Donald Trump went to an air force base as the remains of a Navy Seal who died in Yemen arrived. That soldier was part of a raiding force of U.S. troops in Yemen. These soldiers were allegedly “gathering evidence”. In their raid they killed at least ten women and children, including 8 year old Nawar al-Awlaki. Trump offered no solace or apologies for their deaths. Trump claims Yemeni people pose a threat to Americans. This turns reality on its head. The people of Yemen have suffered greatly, and Trump is escalating the hell they live in to unimaginable extremes.

Freedom of Press Under Attack in Trump’s America

Donald Trump and his regime are aggressively moving to end the guarantee of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that there shall be “no law … abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press”.  Six journalists arrested in Washington D.C. during protests of Trump’s inauguration are facing felony riot charges that carry up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Suzanne Nossel, the executive director of PEN America said this week that “Even a few weeks ago, the prospect of large numbers of journalists in America facing criminal charges, fines, and prison terms for doing their jobs would have seemed far-fetched”. As Refuse Fascism states, “Fascism, once in power, essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights.” This attack and the entire fascist onslaught it is part of must be resolutely opposed.

New Threats and Thuggery in the Trump Regime’s War on Truth

In just nine days, the Trump regime has pumped out lie after lie. Trump demonizes all Muslims, devoid of evidence. He promotes the most outrageous lies about the cause and nature of the global refugee crisis. Trump dehumanizes Black people and Mexicans. He insists, against all facts, that the turnout for his inauguration was under-reported. He claimed, and when challenged insisted—without any basis—that “millions” of people voted against him illegally. This is not just a series of lies, this is a war on truth. And in the past few days, top people in the Trump regime and Trump himself have moved to enforce that war on truth.

Huntington W. Virginia: Hundreds Protest Muslim Ban

“No hate! No Fear! Refugees are welcome here,” chanted a group of protesters on the steps of Huntington City Hall Wednesday.

The protests were in reaction to President Donald Trump’s immigration ban, an order that temporarily blocks refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. The executive order has sparked controversy across the nation, with similar protests in other major cities and airports. (more…)

Three Points on the Righteous Shut-Down of Fascist Milo Yiannopoulos at UC Berkeley

Last night, thousands of students, professors and others protested the appearance and organizing rally of Milo Yiannopoulos, a major fascist operative, shutting it down.  This was righteous and much more like this is needed.

In response, widespread attacks, distortion and threats are being issued, including from the Fascist-In-Chief Trump himself who threatened to cut off all federal funding to UC Berkeley. (more…)

New York City Bodegas Will Shut Down To Protest The Immigration Ban

Days after New York City cab drivers went on strike to protest President Trump’s executive order on immigration, another community of immigrants central to the life of the city are planning a strike of their own. Bodega owners — a trade where Yemeni Americans are well represented in New York City — plan to close their doors on Thursday to show their opposition to the ban. (more…)

New York Taxi Workers Alliance: When “rhetoric of hate is spewed from the bully pulpit, hate crimes increase”

On Saturday night, January 28, thousands of people demonstrated at the JFK Airport in Brooklyn, New York against Trump’s executive order to ban Muslims from traveling to the United States. To show their support for the protests, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance refused to pick up passengers while the protests were going on and they issued the following statement: (more…)

Don’t Think It Can’t Happen Here

My father was born in a small town in Germany, in 1922.  The times were very uncertain and his father, my grandfather Alfred, had trouble finding work, but by the early 1930s Alfred and a partner, a man named Lache, had opened a garage where they fixed cars and motorcycles from England and the United States.

Hitler came to power in 1933.  There were no wholesale roundups of Jews at first, but the government began to take away more and more of their civil rights.  In 1935 Lache, who wanted the garage for himself, went to the Gestapo and told them that Alfred had said something negative about Hitler. Trump’s Weekly List of Crimes Committed by Immigrants is Straight Up Fascism

by Ben Cohen   Make no mistake about it, this is straight up fascism and a shocking department from America’s historic tradition of being one of the most immigrant friendly nation’s on earth.

The Trump administration’s first week in office has been so surreally bad that it is becoming impossible to accurately describe just how appalling their actions are. Adding to his list of executive orders and policy proposals designed to roll back civil liberties, wreck the environment and insult foreign nations, the Trump administration is also mandating that Homeland Security ““make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens”. David Meyerhof

David Meyerhof

My grandfather Otto Meyerhof won 1922 Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology. He discovered basically how sugar is converted into energy in the human body and the Embden-Meyerhof Pathway, which is part of your digestive system. He escaped from Germany and survived the Holocaust. Here is part of his story.
In 1935 all Jews in Germany were deprived of civil rights and on December 31, 1935, Otto Meyerhof lost his professorship at Heidelberg University. He was allowed to continue as director of the Institute of Physiology at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Medical Research (until the anti-Jewish pogrom of 1938).
In that role, he protected his staff from Nazi persecution, and employed young Jewish men and women illegally as members of his staff. Through his persistence, two who were communists were released from political imprisonment and returned to work at the Institute.
The authors of Otto Meyerhof document that in 1935 the leader of the Nazi-controlled university teacher’s organization wrote to the rector of the university: “Professor Meyerhof is 100 percent Jewish and in the last few months has become increasingly active politically. There is evidence of not only scientific but also political contacts which he has with foreign countries. Therefore, Professor Meyerhof is highly dangerous, and an offer of an appointment from abroad offers an ideal opportunity to be rid of him. Despite his fame abroad, he is likely to vanish in the mass of other emigrants.”
