Our campaign for Heidi Latsky Dance’s On Display installation was live on the Times Square Jumbotron.

On Display is a commentary on the body as spectacle and society’s obsession with body image. Members of the disability, performance, and fashion worlds are often stared at and objectified in their daily lives. On Display addresses our propensity to judge people according to what they look like.

Heidi Latsky Dance has staged On Display at the United Nations, NYU, The High Line, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. The company is working on a global initiative to commemorate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd.

We’re honored to be a part of The Paris Review’s storied design history. The AIGA’s blog Eye on Design published a piece on how the literary magazine has managed to stay relevant for over 60 years. The answer: Redesign, Redesign, Redesign.

Madeliene Morely writes about Point Five’s 2005 redesign with editor Philip Gourevitch:

Under Point Five’s direction, issue 182 of The Paris Review became the first to be shortlisted for an SPD prize alongside Wired and The New York Times Magazine. The cover featured an image of drug lord Pablo Escobar’s confiscated gun hidden inside a book. The new look and visual attitude meant it was treated as if it were a major newsstand title, not a maverick literary publication.

The article was a welcome opportunity for Alissa to reminisce about the studio’s five year collaboration:

“Philip’s vision as editor was to introduce more non-fiction and photojournalism into the publication,” she continues. “Our vision was therefore larger in size than the original format. We wanted wider margins to create more breadth for the reading experience.” Their relaunch issue, number 174, featured a photograph of Salman Rushdie as a toddler on the cover. “It captures a moment of innocence, yet alludes to the intensity of his life to come,” says Levin.

Maura Fitzgerald’s cover story is about how long-time residents and migrants in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands engage in acts of resistance, even as borders around the world become more militarized. You can read it here. Rachell also illustrated the issue’s stunning cover.

It was such a pleasure redesigning the Convene website, as we’ve art directed and designed the print magazine for over three years. The digital redesign was an excellent opportunity for us to bring both editorial and visual consistency between the two platforms.

Barbara Palmer, Director of Digital Content, describes our goals for the new website:

We wanted to create an online experience that more closely mirrors the print magazine while offering the advantages of an online, responsive platform. We know that readers might start an article in the print edition, pick it up in the middle on their phones, and then share it with a friend via email or on social media. We tried to make all of that as easy as possible.

It was also essential for the new site to give the magazine’s editors flexibility in their publishing process. We created a user-friendly WordPress CMS, customized to fit their needs, allowing the Convene team to easily and quickly publish content.

The new site also allows Convene content and advertising to be easily be shared with PCMA, the magazine’s parent organization.
