The discretion of a man is shown by his patience; he glories when his iniquity is removed.

Greetings Christian Bloggers! This weekend the ChristianBlog.Com ministry turns 11 years old! One or two of you have been around almost the entire time, while others have blessed us by joining some other time along the way. Thank you to all who have stayed around to be blessed and to bless others! We wanted to highlight a few news events that have happened over the last year. The loss of far too many departing our presence and going to be with the Lord. This is always the sad yet joyous part of becoming friends with others. An entirely new Community section to replace the previous wall and prayer sections of the website. Our own custom designed chatroom to replace the aging and insecure previous chatroom (plus private chat for our PRO/PLUS bloggers!) Earlier today we have turned on a...
This unity may be different than you think

The Kingdom of God may not as we envision it. The Holy Spirit showed me a vision the other day of a high mountain with liquid running down its sides onto a vast plain.  As I looked I soon noticed that the entire plain was covered and the quickly flowing stream was pouring into the sea.  I immediately recalled the verse that speaks of the knowledge of the Lord that will cover the earth, as the waters cover the sea. As I looked I asked the Holy Spirit the meaning of this and he replied that the streams flowing down the mountain was the oil of unity pouring out from Gods dwelling place.  As this reply reached my ears my mind recalled the verse in Psalm 133:3 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the...

Prov. 3:5, 6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV) When encountering major life 'transitions.' How should I respond? Honestly, the first reaction mirror's the disciples seeing Jesus asleep in the boat. Wind, waves, and storm approaching with panic ensuing. How could the Lord sleep now? Does He not know or care I am about to sink? Heb. 4:13 - Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him ... (NIV) When Christ woke and calmed the storm. He then asks why such small faith? This rebuke seems not of anger but disappointment. Christ lived daily with them seeing His life and all done; why was trust...
May I never forget

Photo credit: Foter.com / CC0 Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. Psalm 103:1-2 (NLT) As I read those verses this morning, I found myself reflecting on what I like to refer to as "God's Photo Album".  From the time I was a child, I was taught that it was important to not only experience but remember the things that God has done.  In fact, this was something that God commanded His people to do, over and over again. On more than one occasion God would tell his people to erect some sort of memorial, not only so they would remember what he had done but also so that the story might be passed on down from one generation...
There's room at the table

As a Scandinavian-American who lives in an area of the US with a very high number of the descendants of Scandinavian and German immigrants, the celebration of Christmas Eve is actually bigger than Christmas. In addition to attending a Christmas Eve service, many families get together with their extended family, have a meal and open their Christmas gifts that evening rather than on Christmas Day itself.  I love Christmas Eve. I love the service, I love the fellowship, I love settling down after a meal, lighting the candles as well as the tree, singing carols, reading the Christmas story and then opening gifts. I love Christmas Eve. The call before noon on Christmas Eve Day. My husband and I were busy with last minute preparations for the evening, moving additional chairs into place...
Thoughts from the christmas narrative
John Knox+

A number of revelations have come to me this Christmas as I have been thinking of the birth of our Savior that I feel compelled to share. I am continually amazed that the Lord of heaven and earth wishes to stoop down and share his thoughts with me, an insignificant individual here in New Zealand; one of the smallest countries in the world. Going back to the annunciation to Mary of the Immaculate Conception, it is recorded in Luke 1:37 For no word from God will ever fail. Therefore I wish to encourage all who have received a word from the Lord hang onto it for it will come to pass. Remind the Lord time and time again particularly when you are under the pump of his promise to you. For I sense that those who have been in the slavery of Egypt, the Lord of Hosts has heard your cry and has...

Isa 53:4 - Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! (NLT) The words in the title were spoken with tears and groaning driving home two weeks ago. Pain physically and emotionally from a protracted medical process change left me at 'wits end.' The last change brought many weeks of distress. The thirty minute commute provided opportunity of verbally crying out from the turmoil and despair. It was too much to bear. Where was hope? The Spirit answered directing me to read Isaiah 53. This was puzzling since I knew chapter's content and passage. How did it relate to my suffering? Arriving home, I grabbed the nearest bible. My usual preference is NASB, NIV, or...
The widow m at christmas

My dear fellow CBers. I love you dearly. And some of you have been truly wonderful. Some of you are clueless, but that is not your fault. I was most definitely clueless before joining the ranks of the Widowed. My faith will get me through. HA! All of you (my old self included) somehow think that being a Christian shields you from the pain of losing the Love of Your Life. It does not. Being a believer does not magically heal you and transport you to a land of No Pain. I have had major major life altering surgery. Someone carved out my heart, my joy, my reason for living, and my hope for any future in this life. I am left with a shell of a body that has nothing to hold it together. If you were to look up " people say to widows" on YouTube, you'd get so many videos you...
Faith over fear

4 “say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution, he will come to save you.” Isaiah 35:4 I have been doing quite a bit of thinking lately about fear or in my case, lack of. About how powerful fear can be. How emotionally and physically taxing fear can be on both our mind and body. If you spend any time on social media sites such as Face Book, you are well aware of the fear the last presidential election stirred up in many people. I see many people who are emotionally overcome with fear of where the county is going and how our new president is going to impact our lives. Then I think, am I so naive that I have no fear of the future of this country? Should I be more up to date on media? Am I...
A different perspective - a cancer story

I went to visit a close friend for a few days who inspired me more than I ever could have imagined. She gave me a different perspective on life, an inspired perspective. In the midst of a stage 2 breast cancer fight, she picked me up at the airport with a beaming face. (I haven't seen her in a few years) During our three day visit we talked about all the things we've missed over the last few years. Jobs, babies, friends... .. The conversation went on and on as if a day had not passed since we'd seen one another. We also talked about the "C" word. About chemo and upcoming treatment plans, about being sick and Gods plan. I learned what chemo port is and how the medicine is delivered to her body. How the days during chemo were hard, but she pushed through and rested...
A little holiday cheer!

The holiday cheermeister is soon to arrive! A cheermeister, for those unaware, is an annual party where a whole town is invited to partake of a celebration. So often in the news the only cheermeistering that we hear about is when activists take over a town in protest of this-or-that. The days of when people in towns around the world would come together to cheermeister at a lightening of a town christmas tree, or a gathering together to go christmas caroling, seem to be mostly days gone past. But what can we do to have our days filled with holiday cheer? It is actually quite simple... find some holiday cheer near you and join in to help spread the cheer! Become the cheer - and help others find some cheer!...
Patience in the midst of chaos
John B. Abela+

There is something about the holiday seasons that seems to cause people to have elevated stress. Beyond the food, family, buying of gifts, and all of that stuff. It just seems as if people start getting all frazzled during the holidays. Though all the music is of holiday cheer and happy times. Though at the heart of it all, at least what it is suppose to be, is the coming together of family and friends for a few days, or maybe just a few hours, spent together. Perhaps is the travelling. Perhaps it is the fact that others around you are all in a state of high stress and chaos. Perhaps it is just the jolliness of the season. Perhaps, even, it is because you do not celebrate Christmas and it is just another day on a calendar for you and everybody around you is in the Christmas spirit -...
