Lucie Krennwallner: Hi, support adviced me to use this site. I am downloading data vom Google Analytics (Api) using R. Only the number of users is too high, which might be caused by the way how the Users metrics is calculated (all other metrices work fine9

How do I have to change the R code or which calculations are necessary so that the downloaded user numbers and the user numbers that are shown on the Analytics Web site match? Or do you know who can help? Thanks a million for any advice & help!

Remo Zehnder: Hallo John, ich habe ein Problem bei der Sichtbarkeit meiner Seite seit Ende Dezember (habe dir ne PN per Google+ geschrieben). Kannst du da bitte mal schauen? Leider weiss ich nicht 100% woher der starke Verlust im organischen Traffic kommt. Vermutlich waren es die Javascript Onclicks innerhalb eines normalen <a> Tags, sprich die eigentliche Verlinkung plus Onclicks zusätzlich... Der Fehler ist seit Anfang Januar behoben. Sofern es eine Algo-Penalty ist, wie lange dauert das? Siehst du sonst was woran es liegen kann? Wäre dir MEGA Dankbar um ein Feedback. Lieber Gruss Remo

Steffen Schojan: Hallo John, Frage zur Akkordeon-Funktion (<div class="akkordeon">), um durch langen Text das Design einer Webseite nicht zu zerstören. Wie geht ihr mit dieser Funktion um? Könnt Ihr die Texte dennoch erkennen oder muss auf etwas bestimmtes geachtet werden? Wir würden gern ca. 1/3 oder 1/4 des Textes erst nach Klick sichtbar machen. Oder siehst Du diese Funktion eher als kritisch / nachteilig an?

Hintergrund: Manchmal muss der User ziemlich viel scrollen, bei viel Content, bis er den Footer erreicht. Wirklich interessierte Leser klicken auf das Akkordeon und andere verschaffen sich schneller einen Überblick über die Inhalte der Seite.

Question: How does Google handle 303, 307, and 308 redirects?

In your post "A search-engine guide to 301, 302, 307, & other redirects" you say that a 307 redirect is not a server-side redirect. I understand that browsers in some cases give a false 307 response, but 303, 307, and 308 ARE server-side redirects. So, can we assume that they are treated similarly to 301 and 302 redirects?

D Harris: I would love it if someone from the Google crew can chime in on the topic of manipulating the browser back button, as I see more and more sites doing it and ranking very well on the pages they apply this tactic to (is it against terms of service or not?): Manipulating Browser Back Button. I know from looking into this a bit deeper that Google is giving a good amount of weight to page bounce rates, and by manipulating the browser back button, you are essentially telling Google that "hey no one bounces back from this page, it must be awesome and relevant" When all they are doing is sending you to a thin content page from the search and then when you click the back button on the browser, it redirects you to an advertisement page, thus making the page you originally went to look like a great page to the Google bot. Thoughts?

János Pásztor: I'd have a few question too:

1. I have a content site (kind of a blog) which has primary content pages (full articles) and listing pages that group articles by categories, etc.

Since I think that, when searching, the listing pages don't represent too much value to the user, should I mark those pages with noindex,follow?

The full site is marked up with schema.org markup, so Google should understand my site fairly well on it's own.

2. In social media you can see a trend that easier to consume content is being rewarded more. Harder to consume, in-depth content doesn't gain traction as easily. Do you observe or encourage this trend in Google?

3. Does Google Analytics data factor into search crawling or ranking? In other words, am I worse off if I decide not to use GA?
