Women of Reform Judaism Midwest District Convention will be held October 27-30, 2016 at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton & Conference Center in Downers Grove, Illinois. WRJ Midwest District one of eight affiliated sisterhood/women’s group districts within Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism.

Kid Connect

Making and Keeping Friends - This activity-based group for boys and girls ages 6-12 focuses on teaching kids how to develop and maintain friendships. Groups have typically focused on helping children learn how to resolve conflicts, cooperate with peers, deal with bullying, improve their self-esteem, and communicate emotions through practicing their friendship-making skills in the safety of their group. Includes parent/teacher tip sheets.

Group Firefly: Social Thinking for Children on the Autism Spectrum

Group Firefly uses a fun and engaging activity-based approach for teaching and practicing Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking(R) approach. This group, for children 8-18 years of age, allows for hands-on learning using play, expressive arts, and discussion. Topics that have been covered include: self-esteem building, how to initiate a conversation, feelings identification, social media, bullying, and perspective-taking.

Parent collaboration is emphasized. Groups are divided by age and level of functioning.

The 1960’s were some groovy times. Sick music, far out people, and totally rad music festivals are just some parts of history during this time. In particular, Woodstock. Since Woodstock was a super groovy and revolutionary experience, we’ve decided to recreate it at CHUSYstock 2016! During the convention we’ll be doing some totally awesome activities relating to the times of the 1960’s and the music festival of Woodstock. In addition, we will also be learning about different cultural revolutions of the time and adapting them to modern revolutions like: Black Lives Matter, the LGBTQ movement, and modern feminism. We’re going to have a groovy dance Saturday night rollin’ the night away…

“Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah” explores the arduous 12-year journey that led to the creation of the French iconoclast’s “Shoah,” a nine-hour-plus examination of the Holocaust. Marking the 30th anniversary of the landmark documentary, the film features previously unseen outtakes and reflects on key moments in the 90-year-old auteur’s life, revealing his hopes and expectations for the future. Directed by Adam Benzine.
The “Shoah” outtakes comprise the Museum’s Claude Lanzmann Shoah Collection, one of the richest sources of Holocaust history. The Museum’s more than $1 million investment has preserved about 70 percent of Lanzmann’s 220 hours of picture and sound reels, which are now fully available for research and freely accessible on the Internet. The Museum is committed to improving access to these interviews, which have great significance for scholars, documentary producers, and the wider public.
