A seminal moment for Drupal - DrupalCon Asia

Once the dust settles we will begin to realise DrupalCon Asia was indeed a seminal moment in the history of Drupal. In this short time, as I've managed the social media for the conference, I've watched the Asian Drupal Community come of age.

Huge respect has grown for the region has been born out of the event through high calibre presentations, floorless executing of the event, sheer energy, cultural diversity and harmony. I have no doubt this event was exactly the impetus the region deserved. There's a lot to celebrate.

Celebrate Drupal 8 - how it was done

As with many crazy ideas this all started in a bar. No ordinary bar, this was DrupalCon Barcelona Trivia Night. @BarisW said “so what are you going to do about Drupal 8’s release, we’re relying on you”. I was phased, but it set my mind in motion.

I am one of those people who, when faced with a challenge, believe the impossible is possible. How do I reach every corner of the globe and spread the word of this amazing new Drupal 8 thing? This is the story of how Celebr8D8 came to be, and I didn't do it alone.

I am spearheading the Drupal 8 release celebrations on social media Thursday 19th November. Perhaps, like me, you have been working behind the scenes on a personal project to mark this significant occasion. Which countries have contributed most to Drupal 8?

For some time I have been using official Drupal social media channels to champion individuals and communities in countries beyond USA and Europe. To recognise that Drupal is a truly global community, where all are welcome and do take part. Now I have some interesting and fascinating evidence that this is true, read on.

At DrupalCon I arranged for a 9 metre squared floor decal celebrating the top 1000 contributors to Drupal 8. So many of you asked for access to the original artwork, and many who could not be at the conference, so I have prepared this page so you can!

Lightning talks at your Drupal Meetup

Last night NWUG held an evening of Lightning Talks at Madlab in Manchester. These are small talks that last up to 10 minutes long or can be run in the Pecha Kucha format with 20 slides in 6 minutes (1 slide every 20 seconds).

Welcome to Amsterdam, the "free ride" stops here

For a long time I’ve harboured the belief that too few in Drupal receive the recognition they deserve. I often wonder how many bright (young) stars fall through the cracks of our vast community, fade away and perhaps leave altogether. When the Drupal project was small if you did some heavy lifting, people noticed. Now our numbers have swelled beyond 1 million it is no wonder worthy effort goes relatively unnoticed.

Few of us are seeking the limelight but being noticed, that’s another matter. It’s not just recognition either. We should be mentoring emerging talent, supporting promising businesses and championing contributions from end users. But with such a vast and growing community, as Dries so eloquently put in his keynote, the status quo is unsustainable.

An unsung hero of Drupal(Con)

During the Q&A with Dries Buytaert at yesterdays keynote I referenced the many unsung heroes of the Drupal community. I would like to shine the spotlight towards one such individual. Serving as the Local Social Media Lead for DrupalCon is necessarily a behind the scenes role however it should not pass without recognition.

Gábor Hojtsy on Drupal Dev Days 2014

On 24-30 March, Drupal Developer Days Szeged 2014 will have a strategic role in Drupal 8 development. At DrupalCamp London Gábor Hojtsy explained to me that the event would benefit from a little more sponsorship to guarantee providing the best and most reliable wifi and internet infrastructure.
