Winter Landscape with Skaters by Hendrik Avercamp.

Here is a leaflet by the National Gallery with more information.

I love that it's a painting not of a king, or war, or Jesus or anything religious. It's a painting of people living their lives 400 years ago, and having fun. It makes history much more relatable, to me anyway. The paintings from the Dutch Golden Age are full of representations of ordinary life. Steen and Rembrandt are fantastic too.

Adrian Goldsworthy has a very accessible style of writing and wrote a book on the fall of the west.

I recommend it if you're interested in the era!

Ricciardo is such a unique guy in F1, really pleased he finally won his race.

Max may be Dutch, but we still love Ricciardo for being such an awesome guy. Ric definitely deserved a win.

Looks like Max has given up on trying to pass Ricciardo and has settled for second.

Pretty sure that's how Rosberg feels as well as he's actually flying through the race.

Somehow I read that as Australian and had a chuckle imagining Hitler with an ozzie accent.

Actually, it seems from the comments here like it's always Max' fault, always.

Johnson can't name a single foreign diplomat. Can we stop pretending he's a valid alternative? by dcrico20 in politics

Oh no i think we understand the whole process behind your putting freedom first just fine, and it's definitely part of American culture. Besides, I think European countries have in the past shown why it's a principle that has merit.

The other way around though I think I can summarise that we feel just as free as you without our guns, and perhaps even a little freeer because we don't have to fear violence as much, both from criminals and police.

It does, and it was an interesting read. As a European it can get difficult to distill the core of an issue, and you did that very well.

We also have a lot of Brits going to our universities as they're much cheaper. I wonder how Brexit will impact this, if they're out of the EU/EEA they will have to start paying a lot more in tuition.

I never heard of the second part, are you sure?

It must be a tiny, tiny, TINY minority. The Frisians are more of a thing, but AFAIK they just want greater recognition for their heritage to which they've been accommodated.
