    I have just been through passport control at Heathrow. Some odd questions, as always, but the highlight was the officer asking me what "pre-settled status" was, when I gave this as answer to her question as to whether I had a visa or not. This cannot be real.

    I vividly remember being told that I must have gotten into Oxford because of some ethnic minority or state school quota. Or that the only reason I got in and some people’s friends from school didn’t was because of “social engineering”. You just can’t win.
