    When I was a kid I used to open the fridge, find nothing I wanted, wander around the kitchen a bit, then repeat. I feel like my life hasn't changed much, except now Twitter is my fridge.

    Tumblr is a porn site without Google’s intent data or FB’s demo/interest data. Seems like had either, and we’re it brand-safe content, they’d be fine. It’s not enough to have eyeballs, but Googbook isn’t the problem, designing for eventual revenue is.

    I will gostwrite your VC tweets for $1k a pop, replies at $250, sweet dunks will vary by target and viciousness.

    There’s a PR firm in San Francisco that charges $12,000 to ghostwrite LinkedIn articles for VC clients ($4k a pop). I get it, you’re busy, but what LinkedIn articles are worth ... any money? Ghostwriting is a wild business.

    It’s weird we talk about these companies ad businesses as though that’s the hard part. In this sense, every business is just a simple battle to invoice like a champ.

    Imagine if Tumblr had been an independent company fighting for the ad dollars that now go to Google and Facebook by default - they had scale, cultural impact, an innovative CEO, the whole deal. Instead Yahoo bought it and slowly crushed it into dust

    The conclusion that you’ll only force people to do all this stuff by passing laws is pretty solid though. I don’t see this happening otherwise. The open question there though is whether consumers will be able to stop them. 🤞🏻

    This really is a good article in that it perfectly highlights the cost of de-conveniencing the internet. Want two day shipping in six days for 4x the price? Struggle remembering your password? Try having as many email addresses! And it’s only $129/yr!

    Inability to interpret data aside (craft is huge), it’s funny to me that as elites sip locally-brewed beer made by small businesses, Real Americans™️ drink rice “beer” brewed by foreign conglomerates. I believe this is what the kids call a narrative violation.

    If you’re a college educated professional who lives in a city who likes to drink imported beer, here’s your reminder that almost no one else is like you.

    The perjorative Surveillance Capitalism seems to be picking up a lot of steam lately. It appears to mean “Consumers shouldn’t be allowed to choose wrong, but I’m still pro-Capitalism.” If you don’t like Capitalism, that’s fine. You’re a Privacy Authoritarian. Own it!

    I’m sure if tech just tries desperately to look neutral it’ll all be fine when this guy gets a second term. Heck, even a third could be perfectly fine. He obviously understands we’re not literally criminals & enemies of democracy.
