    That was the moment when I also felt a shift. Until then the Irish border issue could well have stopped or delayed Brexit. Could still do so, but less likely with the current withdrawal agreement and transition.

    The day the border was pushed to the transition period was the day I gave up. I wish the UK good luck, but as an ex-pat who'd planned to move back, I cannot put my (EU) family through the UK immigration system and I honestly don't trust the UK to handle it any better post-Brexit.

    Companies who have dropped their production database because they accidentally ran code in the wrong environment: Amazon, DigitalOcean, GitHub, GitLab, Travis… the list goes on. Just a reminder that “smarter” people than you still make those “basic mistakes”. And that’s okay.

    The point is not that huge numbers of people used Google Reader. It’s that lots of people who *make media* did. Instead, they look at a feed generated by an opaque, unaccountable algorithm whose board member thinks nothing of destroying media companies & funding misinformation.
