The Purple Mattress website states that the Purple Bed and its packaging are recyclable. They make no specific claims about environmentally friendly materials, besides stating that they are latex-free, non-toxic, and mineral oil based. Our team reached out to their Support Chat to ask about the eco-friendliness of their products, but received no response.

Mattress Help states that Purple's mattresses are hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, due to their 100% food grade materials. Purple's website clarifies that their hypoallergenic mattresses are made with non-toxic, mineral oil based, latex-free Hyper Elastic Polymer. Popular furniture reviewer Den Garden clarifies that the white powder found on some of Purple's mattresses is polyethylene copolymer and deemed harmless by the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health.

Purple mattresses are designed to buckle around specific pressure, meaning one person shouldn't feel another person moving around. Sleepopolis's review tested the mattress by dropping weights from varying heights (to simulate someone moving around in bed) and found a 4 inch dropped produced a small disturbance that quickly disappeared, while drops from 8 and 12 inches created disturbances similar to the average results from other brands tested. Sleep resource Sleep Like the Dead rated Purple's performance when it comes to motion disturbance between a B and a B+, depending on which version of the mattress (i.e Purple Original vs New Purple 3*).

When it comes to cooling, Purple mattresses have received very positive reviews. Sleepopolis named it the best “Temperature Neutral” mattress on their list of Best Cooling Mattresses, referencing how its unique hyper-elastic polymer layer ensures the mattress absorbs neither heat nor cold. Tuck.com's review analyzed 867 verified customer experiences from 29 unique sources and concluded that it's Temperature Neutrality score is “Very Good.”

Purple's website says their products do not off gas, "Purple achieves its goal of helping people feel better by making safety a priority. Purple’s products have no off-gassing and only use CertiPUR-US® Certified foam with our mattress."

Tuck.com's review rated Purple's Off-gassing factor as Very Good (the second highest rating), saying, "Very few Purple mattress owners report strong, persistent off-gassing odor."

The mattress reacts quickly to movement and all sleeping positions. This can be beneficial to those with back pain because they don’t have to wait for the mattress to contour to their body and positioning. Purple is also well known for its pressure relieving abilities. One thing to note is that heavier sleepers will feel the pressure relief of the Purple Mattress easily, while lighter sleepers may experience the polymer layer as firmer."
