Samsung Mongoose 4 core leaked, expected to debut on next-generation Exynos 9820 SoC

Samsung's next generation SoC will be the Exynos 9820, built using the 7nm FinFET process. The new chipset is expected to feature the new Samsung Mongoose 4 CPU. According to tipster Ice Universe, not only will the Mongoose 4 be more powerful than ARM's Cortex A-76 CPU, it will also be more energy efficient. While ARM has said that the A-76 can reach clock speeds of up to 3.30GHz, the comments from Ice Universe's tweet suggests that the Mongoose 4 processor will top that speed.

Ice Universe says that he expects the Exynos 9820 to produce a multicore Geekbench benchmark score above 13,000. That would seemingly match the score of the Apple A12 SoC, which reportedly went through the same benchmark test last month, according to the tipster. While Samsung designs and produces its own in-house chips, the A12 is designed by Apple and is currently being mass-produced by TSMC using the 7nm process. One interesting note is that the A12 tests have allegedly revealed that the chip currently consumes 23% more energy than expected, although this will undoubtedly be tweaked before the launch of the three new iPhone models later this year.

Don't expect to see the Exynos 9820 with the Mongoose 4 CPU inside any device until the Samsung Galaxy S10 tenth anniversary model is introduced next year. We could see that take place in January at CES in Las Vegas; Samsung is looking to move up its timetable to fit in the foldable Samsung Galaxy X (or whatever the device will be named). The latter could be unwrapped the following month at MWC in Barcelona.
