Native American duo ‘Spirits Rising’ to perform Jan. 28 at Oakland University

Spirits Rising, a dynamic musical duo featuring Native American singers and songwriters Allison Radell and Joe Reilly – will be performing at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 following a workshop on Native American music and dance at Oakland University’s Varner Hall.

OU professor examines evolution of infectious disease with NIH grant

The National Institutes of Health has awarded Fabia Battistuzzi, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Biological Sciences at Oakland University, a $417,286 grant that will allow her to examine the evolution of infectious diseases while laying the groundwork for the development of new drug-based treatments that could help to save thousands of lives.

In 1957, Matilda Dodge Wilson donated her estate to establish what is now Oakland University. The estate includes the National Historic Landmark Meadow Brook Hall, which Matilda built with her second husband Alfred Wilson from 1926-29.

Matilda was inspired by steel pioneer and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, quoting him that she wanted to provide "ladders upon which the aspiring can rise."
