Hi guys!

I loved Head First HTML & CSS and now I want to dive deeper into the realms of web development.
Naturally (and because you advertised it so much in HF HTML & CSS), I'm thinking about starting with HF HTML5.
But, seeing that the first (and as I understand it, only) edition is from 2011, I'm wondering if the information in the book will be still up to date enough today. I guess the standards don't change so fast, but I want to be sure it's all top-notch.
Is there another edition planned, maybe?

Hi, yes - all the info is still relevant! The main thing that changed was Twitter's API, but we have a post about that here:

Among other programming experience I'm quite proficient with Python, so I hope I'm good to go with Javascript. =)

Yes JavaScript and HTML both are scripting language. If you python very well, I don't think you would be having any problem with JavaScript as well.

You noted an HTML 5 book update in december 2013 on an Amazon comment, I was wondering if this is still in the plans or not? If so when will it be out? I prefer to work from physical books and would wait on the latest version of the HTML5 book if it is coming soon.

Head First HTML5 Programming is primarily about programming web applications, so much of the book focuses on JavaScript. The book assumes you've read Head First HTML and CSS and understand the basics of HTML and CSS. The only two elements we cover in depth are canvas and video. Canvas, of course, is really simple; the bulk of the interesting things about canvas are in the JavaScript API.
