What is obviously true but many deny it? by mtrkar in AskReddit

'Though catapults obtain results
In any given war -
A trebuchet, I like to say,
Is capable of more.

'A suited sling is quite the thing
For hurling lumps of stone -
A counterweight is twice as great
Than wood and springs alone!

'They're big, it's true, but mighty too,
And that is why, you see -
That in the end, my finest friend,
It's trebuchets for me.'

What is something everyone should experience at least once during their lifetime? by gpbarber07 in AskReddit

[–]DylanBob1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These experiences are highly subjective. The experience of someone who actively sought them out due to intense interest is going to vary wildly from someone who was told "geez quit making excuses and spend 12 hours in an existential crisis."

People love to spout that all bad trips are actually good, or that all trips all add to growth in one way or another. Yet, there are people out there who otherwise had it together who stared into hell for a night and had terrible, frightening visions and ideas that came from nowhere and benefited no one. Not all trips have a lesson or a purpose, even if you try and prepare as hard as you can.

Psychedelics are not inherently good or evil. They are a microscopic glimpse into the corners of our mind that we've kept in the dark for too long. Almost everything should be illuminated from time to time to help us discover who we truly are, but our minds have the ability to imagine impossibilities and terrible things that truly have no purpose. Not all people can handle the completely illogical BS that sometimes rears its head, even
those who know of this possibility and still say "I've done the research, this is worth the risks to me."

Edit: slight change in wording in final sentence

If there is a 30% off sale and you have $10 dollars, how much can you buy taking into account the discount? by 215324217 in AskReddit

X (the original cost of the item) times 0.7 = $10

Now isolate X and you'll have your answer.

When they came for the fisters, I remained silent; I was not a fister.

When they locked up the anal stretchers, I remained silent; I was not an anal stretcher.

When they came for the face sitters, I did not speak out; I was not a face sitter.

When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

Parents of Reddit, what's something that your kid has done that you pretended to be angry about but secretly impressed or amused you? by Boths in AskReddit

[–]ALittleFrittata 551 points552 points  (0 children)

Not a parent, but I'm a preschool teacher. I've got one kid in my class that, when his foster mom picks him up from school, he races down that hallway and leaps into her arms. The dismissal hallway is busy, and you're not supposed to run. I occasionally yell out, "Hey, hey, walk now!" but he doesn't listen. He's just so unabashedly excited to see his foster mom -- a woman who wants to officially adopt him -- and he's only four but has already gone through more than I have in my 32 years... I can't help myself. I let the lil bastard run and be happy.

I'm happy because I was single for a lot longer than I wanted to be and was figuring I'd probably end up settling, but then I met the most amazing person on the planet and to my great surprise it is requited.

Yes my view of religion changed in that I am no longer a bigot against people's religious beliefs when it doesn't harm other people, promote killing people for their beliefs... like extremism. But if religion brings you comfort, hope, and a sense of community, I say "whatever works for you."
