The Northstar web standards have been updated and evolved to become IBM Digital Design, the resource for the community of designers, developers, and anyone involved in the making of IBM web pages and digital experiences. It is built based on IBM Design Language, which expresses IBM’s brand values across all customer touchpoints, not just the web.
Digital Design includes:
- IBM Design System’s elements and components
- Web specific implementation guidelines
- Design assets and resources
- Easy-to-use and flexible examples and resources
- Built-in metrics and accessibility compliance
- Optimized code and elements for peak performance
To ensure all Digital Design experiences are successful for end users, use IBM’s Enterprise Design Thinking practices throughout the design and development process.

Vision
A complete redesign of the IBM Design Ethos and Language (formerly codename Duo) which will guide all IBM experiences, including brand, web and product design, print, events, and more.
Digital Design will release periodic updates as IBM Design Language elements become available.
Also, Digital Design will be merging with the product specific, Carbon Design System to create a single IBM Design System that will deliver more robust, cohesive experiences for the entire IBM ecosystem.
