600 homes destroyed
32,000 acres of forest and brush burnt
1,700 homeless
180 people injured
Israel will spend the next few weeks assessing the devastating damage and fine tuning these numbers – but there are things we won’t be able to number:
The countless heroes who volunteered to help the firefighters save lives; throes of citizens who opened their homes to strangers who had been forced to evacuate; and endless contributions of food, clothing, and money to help the victims recover.
There is no number for the incredible spirit of Israel and our friends around the world.
The unbreakable resolve of Israel knows only one response to disaster: We will rebuild. Not just rebuild – build more than ever before.
We will build new communities, where people of all walks of life come together in peace. We will strengthen communities, blooming struggling but perseverant villages to their full beauty. We will build neighborhoods of coexistence and togetherness. We will bring groups of pioneers to create what we are best at – communities of light, “OR.”
This is Israel. Where there is darkness, we bring light. Innumerable light.

We're thankful for our friends who join us to build the future of Israel in the Negev and Galilee. Your support keeps us going!
How do we create a secure socio-economic future for Israel?
Today OR Movement participated in The Marker's Socio-Economic Conference in Be'er Sheva, alongside Ministers, CEOs, and leaders of development.
OR Movement CEO, Roni Flamer, spoke about the need to turn the Negev and Galilee into population centers in time for the year 2048.
..."This can't just be done through military investments, but through civillian ones as well - such as SodaStream, who took little help, but created an incredible amount of jobs (in the Negev)."

Happy 15th birthday to Merchav Am!
Fifteen years ago, a dozen pioneering familes took the leap and moved to "the middle of nowhere." The group never gave up, and kept building, bringing more and more young pioneers to join them in the desert.
Today, they are in "nowhere" anymore - Merchav Am has proudly earned their place on the map!

The growing doesn't stop!
Yuvalim is a new neighborhood in Kiryat Shmona, in Israel's Galilee. This neighborhood will bring many young families to build their own homes and help the city grow.
This week we began to help the city market the second phase of Yuvalim. Our information representatives are now taking calls from potential residents and Galilee pioneers.
For more info, check out the neighborhood's beautiful website: http://yuvalim-k8.co.il/
A tree is planted - a new neighborhood is born!
Five years ago a young pioneering Seed Group gathered together with the goal of strengthening Hatzor HaGlilit, a small city in the Galilee. Now they planted a tree in a ceremony to open construction of a new neighborhood.
Pictured: Yoav Galant, Minister of Housing and Construction, and Shimon Suissa, Mayor of Hatzor Hagalilit, planting the neighborhood's first tree with members of the young Seed Group, and OR Movement.
We all need to work together in order to bring the Negev to the top!
Historically, Negev Bedouin students have been mostly left behind when it came to gaining entry to the best in higher education. That will now come to an end.
Yesterday, the Tamar Center, an OR Movement partner, launched its second year with 220 Bedouin High School students. These students are receiving the extra tutoring they need in order to succeed in math, physics, and English studies on the highest leve...l.
