“972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism” (RA 580546307) was established in 2011 by Israeli and Palestinian journalists and bloggers. The organization’s mission is to expose the public to political, cultural and social changes in Israel and Palestine, to advance independent digital journalism, and to publish reportage, opinion, and analysis in Hebrew, English, and Arabic.
Since 2011, the organization has operated the English-language news and analysis site +972 Magazine, and since 2014, it has operated the Hebrew-language site Local Call (“Sikha Mekomit”), in cooperation with Just Vision.

The organization is primarily funded by grants from institutional foundations, alongside support from private individuals and our readers. Operating, writing content and editing the sites, as well as managing the organization, requires significant resources. Donations from readers of both sites comprise a crucial part of the organization’s budget. The best way to support the project is by becoming a member and making a monthly subscription, which helps us plan for the long term, or with a one-off donation.
Yearly audit and financial reports for “972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism,” as submitted to the Israeli Registrar of Non-Profits, can be found on the Guidestar Israel website (Hebrew). Our NGO registration papers can be found here (Hebrew), and certificates of proper management issued by the Israeli NGO registrar for 2022 – here, and for 2023 – here (Hebrew).
Some reader donations were made directly to us, while others we made through the New Israel Fund (DA). At the bottom of the list you can find more details about donations from foreign entities.

Over the years, our organization has received grants from the Heinrich Böll Stiftung and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation – both considered “foreign state entities” according to Israeli law.
Grants from Heinrich Böll Stiftung in 2012 went toward accounting and editorial costs for +972 Magazine. In 2013-2014 the grants went only to editorial salaries for +972 Magazine, and in 2015 also went toward our election coverage. In 2016-2022 these grants went toward editorial salaries for Local Call, while in 2019 they also supported a special public opinion poll. The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation grants in 2018-2022 went toward the salary of one of +972 Magazine’s editors.
The following is a detailed account of donations made by the two foundations in New Israeli Shekels.
