I strongly disagree with "because you have the right to have a secretary of defense whose views are more aligned with yours..." The people of this country have the right to be protected from external forces seeking to undermine our democracy, the president's "rights" be damned.

Jen, Mattis is being the Officer and Gentleman he was trained to be with an underhanded sarcastic tone (basically slapping the moron-in-chief in the face) and outting him to the American people while putting him in his place.

Is there a version of this with "indicted" and/or "imprisoned"?

Read between the lines. He saying that Trump disrespects our allies and is a danger to the security of the United States of America. Also, he doesn’t say that it was a pleasure serving Trump - just the troops.

The "good working with THEM" part stood out to me from the beginning. No pretense at "it was an honor serving under you."

I’m an officer in the British Royal Navy and have long held General Mattis in the highest regard. His wisdom and leadership will be greatly missed.

You are kind to share your high opinion of General Mattis. News of his resignation has saddened me, but I can't say that it has surprised me. I have to believe that many others join me in being sorry to see him go.
