Border Police Officers Hurt in Possible Ramming Attack at Samaria Checkpoint

Two 20-year-old Border Guard Police officers, one a male and the other a female, suffered mild to moderate wounds Tuesday night in a suspected Arab ramming attack at the Gilboa Crossing in Samaria, near the town of Afula, Magen David Adom reported.

The two officers were airlifted from the scene by an MDA helicopter to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, and HaEmek Medical Center in Afula.

But the real intent behind the collision is not clear.

According to security sources, Arab riders on four mopeds came speeding towards a Samaria roadblock where Israeli forces were checking vehicles heading towards the Jewish State, but instead of slowing down, they swerved and tried to duck the checkpoint.

Three of the four managed to break past the roadblock. The fourth, bearing two riders, crashed into the barrier, and the two Border Guard Police officers. The two riders on the moped also were injured and were evacuated as well to HaEmek Medical Center in Afula. They are listed in serious condition.

The incident took place near the J’alameh junction, close to northern entrance to the Palestinian Authority city of Jenin and near the crossing into Israel. The route is one that many citizens of the Palestinian Authority use in order to enter the Jewish State for work.

Both police officers sustained moderate wounds, but remained conscious. Medics at the scene reported they are in fair condition.
