We've seen a recent uptick in people wanting to leave the US for political reasons. That's fine, but remember that this subreddit is to help people move to a different country, not to discuss politics. There are other places for that.

A few good rules of thumb:

  • Try to minimize political content and focus on asking for/receiving immigration tips

  • If someone disagrees with your political views, don't flame them

  • Don't feed the trolls

  • Report rule violations and message the mods

Feel free to discuss below, just please try to treat each other with respect.

What?

In the interest of ensuring that we generate the most accurate responses, we're adding a special flair for "Top Contributors". These are redditors that we feel are some of the best elements of our community.

Why?

We've noticed a problem going around in a number of posts. We have a large community, and a number of people in this community really know what they are talking about. The problem comes from reality not being ideal, and the majority not liking reality. We've noticed well written, accurate comments with sources that are being downvoted. In the same vein, inaccurate comments based on what some wish were true keep being upvoted.

This flair attempts to give more credibility to those who strive to be accurate. As much as I wish linking sources were enough, sometimes a small marker that says "THIS PERSON KNOWS THINGS" can be just as helpful. Note: The Top Contributor Flair isn't an all caps "THIS PERSON KNOWS THINGS", it just says "Top Contributor".

How?

Our plan is to roll this out with a nomination system. If you notice a redditor who is consistently being awesome on this sub, with accurate thoughtful comments that link sources, message the mods with the redditor's username, and links to at least three comments where they are being awesome.

Note:

  • You can't nominate yourself.

  • Mods will make the final decision on who to give this flair to.

Anything else? I wanted to say I'm making this post because changing anything is a great way to get people up in arms. This is a small change that we're implementing to try to solve one problem.

I'm a 24M looking to move to Australia, preferably long term. I've got a bachelors in chemical engineering, with 2 years of full time employment. Graduated in early 2017. I was looking at the skilled migrant visa, given that I'm more than 2 years out of college, but I only have 2 years full time experience atm. Do I need to wait for the third year of experience for the visa? I've been thinking about getting an MBA, which I figure would get me more points for that.

I was researching the engineers of Australia skill assessment pathway. I mostly want to make sure I'm on the right pathway, but I'd rather not wait a year. I'm not interested in the working holiday Visa, but I have mining experience and wouldn't mind getting back into the industry. Any information and advice is appreciated!

Hello everyone. I'm F32 librarian with an Italian citizenship. I've been told its easier to move to Australia of New Zeland before turning 30 but anyway I still want out of this country.

I've been reading a lot about the visas but I really don't know where to start and if it's more convenient to get it from Italy or form here (argentina). any advice about visas of validating my degree is welcome.

Thanks for reading!

Hi guys,

I am a 23F that is interested in moving to Canada, potentially Edmonton. I currently have a Bachelors degree in finance and have a years experience (by the time I would like to move will be 2 years experience) as a risk analyst for a payment processing company. I currently make about 50K. With my background in business, I would like to continue that career path. My company is unfortunately closing down my location come July 2020 and that is when I am thinking would be a good time for me to relocate. The great thing about having a background in finance is I don't have to work in the payment industry or be a risk analyst again, I can do pretty much anything relating to risk or finance or even accounting so my options for companies is high.

I am looking to live in a populated city like Ottawa, Montreal, or Edmonton. But I am also looking for a city that is safe, lgbt community, cost of living is affordable, lots of job (business) opportunities, somewhere with young adults, and somewhere where I could potentially live for a number of years. I am also looking to live by myself (for the time being).

Now with this information, would someone be able to tell me what I would need to do, relating to type of visas, when I should apply for jobs, where I should look to live based on my interests listed above, or if this is even possible? Any suggestions or wisdom you can bestow on someone that is basically clueless on international relocation?

I appreciate it dearly!

Hey there,

I am a 21M Computer Engineering student that wants to drop out and move temporarily to Thailand to join a monastery (please spare the finishing my education i just want to know what visa/etc I need to get there and stay there for an indeterminate amount of time) I was looking at the non-immigrant visa, but there are many types it seems and none mention religious purposes, at least none of the descriptions that I saw. I hope this is enough information, because there isn't much else to put.

Hello everyone,

let me link you to my previous thread for a little background.

I am applying for a Working Holiday visa (or Programme Vacances-Travail PVT), and if all goes well and I am granted the visa, I expect to land by late January 2020 in Paris.

My initial plan was to move in with my then SO and PACS with her, but we've since broken up and she's out of the picture.

I intend to find a CDD to work for the first part of my trip (6 to 9 months) and ideally would love to turn to freelance by the end of the year. I can extend for a second year after that.

What are my options if i want to legally extend my stay in France after my PVT is over ?

Edit: for all the people concerned about the salary requirements (I got few PMs), do your research on seek.com.au. Almost all jobs nationwide are there with salaries. $55k is very basic salary in Australia. No need to worry. Cleaners and unqualified factory workers make more than that. Some office admin positions - low skilled - may pay less than that.

Edit: For those asking what is a regional area and what isn't, Home Affairs explains it well here

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/regional-migration/eligible-regional-areas

Have you seen the new policy changes announced today? This could be exciting for many people. 3 years in regional area is not that bad for permanent residence. Then you can move anywhere after that. For a young person this could be a great option.

Not sure if links are allowed here so search on ABC.net.au for : Federal Government launches new visa scheme requiring migrants to live in regional areas

This is an excerpt:

Aspiring Australians have been given a new way to realise their dreams — but there's a catch.

Key points:

New regional visas have launched this week, giving migrants in more occupations a chance to stay in Australia
