Huawei P20 schematics show three models, one with a screen notch
Unconfirmed schematics reveal what could be Huawei’s plan for the P10 successor. It won’t be called P11 for one, it will be the Huawei P20 and it will come in three versions (at least). And the top model of the three will sport a notch, similar to the iPhone X.
Its screen bezels are nearly non-existent, all except the bottom one are razor thin. The fingerprint reader is on the back, below the camera (more on that in a second). And the top bezel features a notch to accommodate the earpiece, selfie camera and sensors.
Huawei has already demoed its own FaceID-like tech (that will be better than Apple’s, company officials say). That’s not visible on the schematic though and there doesn’t seem to be much room, but who knows.
Anyway, back to the camera – or should we say the triple camera. It’s positioned vertically and it runs down the middle of the phone.
On the Huawei P20 and P20 Plus the camera is in a different position – off to the left on the Plus and rotated 90° on the vanilla model. Both have a fingerprint reader on the (thin) bottom bezel on the front, similar to the vanilla Mate 10.
The schematics say nothing about the functions of the triple camera, but earlier rumors suggest they will work in tandem to create 40MP photos and enable 5x “hybrid zooming”. We expect to hear more either at CES (this weekend!) or at the MWC (next month).

New Galaxy S9+ hands-on video circulating online is fake
It’s not uncommon for purported images and videos of an upcoming flagship handset to leak prior to the official launch. However, they’re not always accurate. While they do provide valuable hints about the upcoming device in some cases, some of them are just without any merit. That’s the case with this new Galaxy S9+ hands-on video which is circulating online today.
Fake Galaxy S9+ hands-on video
We’re all anxious to see the new flagship smartphone from Samsung. Countless renders have already leaked online but we have yet to see a proper hands-on video being leaked ahead of the official announcement.
The only that’s circulating today features a very convincing copy of the Galaxy S9+. It does appear to be the real deal at first glance as it imitates the Infinity Display and the design language very well. It even has a dual camera system at the back. However, you can spot subtle clues that give up the secret.
For example, the bottom bezel is clearly thicker than what you’d expect on the Galaxy S9+. Moreover, the power button is excessively chunky for no apparent reason.
Look closely when the app drawer is opened and you’ll see the FM radio app which you won’t find on the real deal. You can’t spot Galaxy Apps, S Planner and Samsung Health apps. Even the camera app that’s shown in this video is different.
There’s absolutely no doubt that this a fake albeit a very convincing one. It wouldn’t be surprising if this fake starts being sold in China weeks before the Galaxy S9’s official announcement that’s expected to take place at MWC 2018 in February.

LG's next flagship won't be called the G7, rebranding options considered
LG is thinking of a new name for its upcoming flagship. A new report from South Korea suggests that the tech giant will be rebranding its signature G series in order to better compete with its major rivals - Apple and Samsung.
In a statement to The Investor, one LG official has said that rebranding flagship models is nothing new in the industry, and added that the moniker of the upcoming flagship is yet to be decided. Another company official shared some information on what options are currently being considered:
LG is preparing a new brand strategy for the G series in the first half of the year. Numbering the phone with a two-digit number and rebranding the phone with a new name are some of the options on the table.
The G series first became a thing in 2012, when LG announced the Optimus G in September of that year. In the following years, the firm removed the Autobot-esque "Optimus" part and has stuck with the G name ever since.
LG is expected to announce its next flagship at MWC 2018 at the end of February, so we'll have to wait a while before we get to learn about the new name of the device.
Got a name suggestion for LG's next high-end phone? Feel free to share it in the comment section below!

Samsung launches flagship Exynos 9810 processor
As teased a few days back, Samsung has officially announced its latest flagship Exynos processor today. If Samsung sticks to its trend (and it will) to using two different processors for its flagship smartphones, then many markets around the world will get their Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ powered by this processor.
The Exynos 9810, part of Samsung’s Exynos 9 series processors, is built on Samsung’s second-generation 10-nm FinFET fabrication process. The Exynos 9810 comes with custom CPU cores, a faster gigabit LTE modem, and advanced image processing and machine learning capabilities.
The Galxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ processor
The Exynos 9810 is an octa-core processor with four high-performance cores and four energy efficient cores. The four high-performance cores are third generation custom cores that can be clocked up to 2.9 GHz. All of this offers a two-fold increase in single-core performance and 40 percent increase multi-core performance compared to the Exynos 8895.
The new Exynos processor also comes with neural network-based deep learning for enhanced user experience and improved security. According to Samsung, the processor can accurately recognize people or items in photos for fast image searching or categorization. It can also scan a user’s face in 3D for hybrid face detection through depth sensing. The hybrid face detection uses both software and hardware to enable realistic face-tracking filters. It also helps in improving security when unlocking a device with one’s face.
The “unlocking a device with one’s face” part in the press release almost suggests that the next Galaxy flagship will come with a face unlock feature to compete with Apple’s Face ID. To protect all this critical biometric data such as facial, iris and fingerprint information, the Exynos 9810 also comes with a separate security processing unit – an approach similar to Apple’s A series processors.
The Exynos 9810 features the industry’s first Cat.18 LTE modem to support up to 6x carrier aggregation (CA) compared to the predecessor’s 5CA. The embedded LTE modem can also reach speeds up to 1.2Gbps downlink and 200 Mbps uplink. Samsung believes these speeds will make it easier broadcast or steam in 4K or in 360-degree video format.
The Exynos 9810 also makes improvements on the imaging front. The processor comes with a dedicated image processing unit and upgraded multi-format codec (MFC). This should result in better stabilization for images and video, real-time out-of-focus photography in high resolution, and reduced noise and motion blur for better pictures in low light. The upgraded MFC enables video recording and playback in 4k resolution at 120 fps.
Samsung says the Exynos 9 Series 9810 is currently in mass production and will be displayed at CES 2018 in Las Vegas from January 9-12, 2018.
Samsung’s flagship Exynos is already off to a good start as it has already been selected as a CES 2018 Innovation Awards HONOREE in the Embedded Technologies product category.
