Cuban-American lawmakers have denounced President Obama’s tepid statement about the death of Fidel Castro, accusing the White House of whitewashing decades of human rights abuses. Obama’s statement alluded to “the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation,” and predicted that “history will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.” There were no references to longstanding U.S. condemnations of Havana’s record on political, economic and religious rights.

A few years ago, the second-generation Lexus GX 460 received an aggressive and necessary facelift. The updated, bold front fascia truly transformed the lackluster Lexus into a crossover with some serious bite. For my annual Thanksgiving excursion, I took the Lexus GX 460 on the road from Atlanta to Chicago to truly test its travel talents, daily use and overall appeal. Thankfully, Lexus saved a few cool points with the rear glass’s ability to open separately with a touch of a button.

The new currency is meant to tackle the severe shortage of US dollar notes in Zimbabwe, where the economy has been in crisis for years and unemployment is now about 90 percent.

In response to questions in the transition team’s daily press briefing call, communications director Jason Miller simply said the president-elect is considering “a number of very well qualified individuals” for the post. “I’ll leave that to the president-elect if he wants to have any additional commentary,” Miller said of the eyebrow-raising remarks by Kellyanne Conway on “Meet the Press” Sunday.

The half cylinder-shaped shelter was locked in place over the plant's reactor No. 4 after being moved in on hydraulic jacks for two weeks. It marks a significant step toward containing the consequences of the world's worst nuclear accident, which occurred 30 years ago in what is now Ukraine. Subsidies given by the US state of Washington to Boeing are illegal, the World Trade Organization said Monday, in a victory for rival aircraft maker Airbus and the European Union. The ruling from a WTO panel is the latest blow in a drawn out trans-Atlantic battle between the aviation industry's two titans, which has seen both Airbus and Boeing score points along the way. The WTO said that subsidies set up by Washington state to support production of Boeing's 777X jet were "prohibited" as they encouraged the use of domestic materials, fuelling trade distortions.
A bubbling flood of molasses that sent a towering wave of goo down the streets of Boston in 1919, catching everything from horses to humans in its sticky grasp, killing 21 people, injuring 150 more and flattening buildings in its wake. Cool temperatures may have caused the spilled molasses to flow more slowly, complicating attempts to rescue victims and to begin recovery and cleanup, researchers report in a new study. On Jan. 15, 1919, shortly after 12:40 p.m. local time, a giant storage tank 50 feet (15 meters) tall and 90 feet (27 m) wide on Boston's waterfront at the Purity Distilling Co. collapsed in the city's crowded North End, according to newspapers at the time.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel received two contrasting reactions to her immigration policy on Monday: a tearful thank-you from an Afghan boy, and a call from a party member for her to resign. More than a million migrants have come to Germany since the start of 2015, and an initial outpouring of helpfulness has largely given way to caution and concerns about integration and security. At a regional conference of Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU), party member Ulrich Sauer urged Merkel - who said on Nov. 20 she wanted to run for a fourth term in next year's election - to resign.
Miller’s comments came on the transition team’s daily press call when he was asked about a series of tweets Trump sent on Sunday asserting that he “won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.” His campaign has provided no evidence for the claim, and outside experts say it has no merit. Trump made his comments in response to news that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign is participating in a recount of the voting in Wisconsin that was requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

At least 8 people were sent to hospitals near Ohio State University Monday morning as the campus alerted students of a possible active shooter, writing "run, hide, fight" on Twitter. While details of the alleged shooting remained scant early Monday, reports of a heavy police and fire department presence at OSU quickly turned the nation's interest toward Ohio's relaxed gun laws, which currently provide some of the most lenient restrictions in selling and distributing firearms throughout the nation.
