Bill 31 will not pass this weekend. Under the standing orders it can't even be debated Saturday. Debate could begin Sunday. If government tries to wiggle out of the plowing match break and gets debate Monday and Tuesday -- a big if -- then could pass Wednesday or Thursday. Maybe.

Weekend legislative sittings are rare. Usually reserved for ending wildcat transit strikes with back-to-work legislation. But House doesn't sit Fridays and has adjourned for Monday and Tuesday because of the International Plowing Match. So panicked Tories had to act.

As first reported, the Legislature will sit Saturday at 1 pm. There was a hastily prepared cabinet order-in-council signed tonight after the fledgling government realized it's running of time to pass Bill 31 in time for an Oct. 22 Toronto election.
