Comparison is a stretch, if not flawed entirely: Turkey regularly hosted YPG's political wing, PYD, up until 2014; Turkey has pursued peace with the PKK; YPG is embedded in Turkey's domestic socio-cultural & political structures because of its overlap with the PKK. Erdogan's @nytimes op-ed has generated much controversy but most interesting is the strong emphasis on a Turkish role in overseeing good governance/stabilisation in the east. That's a task Turkey is woefully unprepared for & ill-equipped to undertake - unless it works with the US
