Provocation is not a legal defense-self defense is the only legal defense to assault or the imminent threat of an assault. The Senator has a defense for his one punch initially if even that. He for sure doesn't have a defense for the excessive response.

1. I read what they are saying to see if it is incendiary for either side of the argument
2. I look to see if they follow me or I follow them
3. I look at their account quickly to see if they would likely be someone in my circles
4. I block.
