I believe that there are things that could and should be shared across govt and local govt... and that not doing so is poor use of public money... but I don’t believe there’s a simple answer in this messy world we all inhabit

Still leads to helpful reuse and learning from others that reduces costs, but recognised complication and complexity

I think the language you’ve chosen Julie is far more useful... patterns can involve strong similarities that help us to create something that closely matches in similar circumstances. Illustrations likewise imply the application of human interpretation and nuance.

By which I mean, it works in high level theory/presentations for ‘senior’ people, but as soon as you begin any sort of implementation those blocks turn out to be the wrong shape & size to fit other blocks. Or maybe you are trying to fit Lego and Sticklebriks together!

Pragmatic and smart and open - and colleagues ask for comments on their draft public sector routemap to success. As someone who has travelled this path, it's well worth a look....

I completely understand how the language captures the imagination of people looking for answers... been there myself in 2014... the idea of simple blocks fitting together is seductive. But it only really works at the most abstract and superficial level

It’s stuck in my head all day. So I wrote something about , the tale of a t-shirt, and the little things we do as a community that make a big difference

Thanks for sharing that with us. Shouldn’t have to justify yourself further, but it feels important to know about the background too... so frustrating to discover yet another tech company falling short

Totally agree Simon, lots of us out here working flat out to make this happen remember. Challenged by legacy systems, IG luddites, STP leaders who don’t prioritise it & money (lack of). I know NHSE working to help us and together we can crack this!!

We have to fix this. Health information must be interoperable, moving freely between systems, and integrated - appearing as a whole. Our ‘white picket fences’ must be trampled under the weight of patient’s demands to do it better.

There is a very interesting intersection between the work of the Frankfurt School, Resistance Theory, Subaltern Theory and the new organisational ethnography of people like . Someone should write about it.
