I think the language you’ve chosen Julie is far more useful... patterns can involve strong similarities that help us to create something that closely matches in similar circumstances. Illustrations likewise imply the application of human interpretation and nuance.

By which I mean, it works in high level theory/presentations for ‘senior’ people, but as soon as you begin any sort of implementation those blocks turn out to be the wrong shape & size to fit other blocks. Or maybe you are trying to fit Lego and Sticklebriks together!

I completely understand how the language captures the imagination of people looking for answers... been there myself in 2014... the idea of simple blocks fitting together is seductive. But it only really works at the most abstract and superficial level
