These were not of MS 13. Facts matter. They are likely American citizens, teenagers, who speak English and grew up in the Bronx . But, for the record, I never said or insinuated I was for “letting them {MS 13 gang members} into our country.

I’m with you on the desire for less politicization of all aspects of life; I would disagree strongly that a restaurant can reject customers simply because they don’t like them or their politics. Thank God, we no longer reject based on skin color, right?

Three blocks from my home and parish, alleged gang members brutally kill a 15 yr-old victim due to mistaken-identity. We won’t stop until these guys are behind bars. We must also reach these kids with Jesus before gang life.

If you are angry you have work to do on a deep, interior level. Could be God’s grace is alive and well in your life even if it hurts.

Charles, it’s easier to apply tough messages to others than to ourselves. But we all need to apply it first to outlrselves.

In heaven, there will be no Jew nor Gentile, no black nor white, no Republican nor Democrat, no Conservative nor Liberal... we will all be friends of God and friends of one another. How are we treating our future friends now?

Stephen, thanks for writing this. Another reminder of Charles’ humanity, and his endless, honest pursuit and celebration of what is true, good, and beautiful.

Yes, I agree, it doesn’t fit the narrative that much of the media is following.

No, it was not. Take a look again at the speech. And he certainly did speak about the right to life. But more to the point, when we hear Mt. Ch 6 quoted, we should think about our own souls rather than the defense of the political issue of the day.

Making all things political, viewing everything through lenses of social conflict, is evidence enough that the heart needs tweaking.
