What a difference 1 month & the DSWT can make! It’s been a tough road to recovery for Dololo but he’s getting there thanks to milk & lots of TLC! Adopt him this & help fund the care he needs while staying up-to-date with his progress:

We have met visiting wild bulls who we suspect are the fathers to some of the wild born calves however but elephants are raised by their mothers and female relatives. Dads are far from hands-on parents & their involvement tends to be limited to reproduction only.

Sweet Jotto surpassed himself of late when he went for a wander with younger friend Merru & broke off the taller branches, passing them to his smaller friend to eat! Adopt this orphaned bull with a heart of gold:

Striped or tusked, our Voi Reintegration Unit offers a safe haven to any orphaned animal in need. Orphaned as a foal, Ngulia was rescued & hand-raised by our Keepers. Until she’s ready to return to the wild, she’ll have a home with us.

Previously one of the most mischievous & greediest orphans at our Nairobi Nursery, Esampu has calmed her ways (a little) under the influence of the older dependent orphans at our Ithumba Reintegration Unit. But she hasn’t lost her lust for a milk bottle…

Ngilai’s story is testament to the power of your donations! This orphan arrived at our Nursery in a terrible state. His phenomenal recovery is due to his tenacity & the specialist care he received from passionate care-givers

Illegal charcoal production can have a devastating impact on our forests & wildlife, destroying key habitats & food sources. The DSWT/KWS Burra De-Snaring Team have been working hard to combat this threat in recent months:

Humans have Trichromic vision which means we can see an array of rainbow colours. Elephants have Dichromic vision, meaning that they see in a similar way to colour-blind humans.

Last week, the DSWT/KWS Mobile Vet initiative was in action helping this with a spear embedded in her skull! Fortunately, she has a good chance of recovery thanks to urgent treatment. Learn more about our efforts to stop human-wildlife conflict:

As well as trumpets and rumbles which are audible to the human ear, elephants use infrasound – low frequency sounds below the range of human hearing – to communicate across vast distances
