We have travelled the length & breadth of the country. Branches have spoken, they have nominated & mandated delegates to go and vote. The power now rests with the delegates. Every 5 years, we draw strength from the national conference, no-one wants to spoil this precious moment.

Dealing with loadshedding, implementing the national minimum wage, infrastructure development - all of these are very much a part of the NDP. We want to be a 5% or more in terms of economic growth.

NDP talks about the power of SMMEs to drive the economic growth and create jobs. We have R70bn which has been attracted throughout the work were doing through the oceans economy, which is inspired by the NDP. You need to look at government work holistically

Government adopted the NDP and translated it into the MTSF. The work we do in government is aimed at implementing the NDP. Its being driven through the work of government. The National Health Insurance is one such example.

The alliance has a task of building a national democratic society. Alliance partners have all gone through their own challenges and overcome them. We must sit as the alliance and discuss current challenges. We are stronger when we are united.

There must be rule of law. Those who have done wrong must be taken to book and they must take full responsibility. When you intentionally do things that are wrong and act against the interest of the public, that is tantamount to treason

We never focus on private sector corruption and follow what eventually happens to those who are caught. We are saying there must be equal treatment. The media must uncover and tell these stories as they do with public sector corruption

Corruption has always been seen as a public sector problem. In the private sector corruption is quite rife. #Steinhoff is only the tip of the iceberg. While its privately owned, its actions implement on the lives of others. There must be accountability and there must be arrests.

We have had systemic challenges, we are looking at implementing foolproof systems that will assist us in managing risks and fixing problems. We want to limit the temptation and ability for people to do wrong things.

Now that all of this is out in the open, action is being taken. We are establishing a commission of enquiry into #StateCapture. We are going to look at the way SOEs work and how they should be managed. We want to have a much tighter oversight role and deploy the best people there

State capture became evident much later. For example, Eskom was doing well until we started having load shedding. Only then we started picking up that there were problems. A lot of things only started spilling out much later.
