Still, it does seem like debate would be helpful for convincing third parties, assuming our supreme confidence in the righteousness of our cause is well-placed.

	En respuesta a @tage_rai 1/2: Ah, I gotcha. It sounds like you're focusing on situations in which we are 100% convinced that we are correct -- and, therefore, that neither we nor third parties have anything to learn from discourse with those who disagree. I hope such situations are extremely rare.

I see that the person you retweeted advocates for fighting, but doesn't that produce a might-makes-right situation? And if so, wouldn't debate be better -- wouldn't we prefer a situation in which the best argument wins?

I can't speak for others, and I'm not an expert on this research, but I could also see why people would seek to offer guidance based on evidence of a lower standards if it's the best available.

But @JonHaidt's tweet struck me as both friendly and conciliatory. He talked about an evolving view. Even if his view wasn't justified in the past, why not engage him on those terms?
