Ambassador Karen Hideko Sasahara assumed her duties as U.S. Ambassador to the State of Kuwait on November 26, 2023. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for North Africa from November 2020 to July 2022.

Jim joined Mission Kuwait as Deputy Chief of Mission in July 2021. A career Senior Foreign Service Officer, Jim previously served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Iranian Affairs. Prior overseas assignments include reporting and management positions in Iraq, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Italy.
